i think in order to hit more stars you have to orbit the enemy counterclock wise, that on every side you are multiplying the relative speed at which they move across the enemy

Yep, he got the direction backwards, since the stars are moving clockwise. Though honestly its pretty hard to micro this sort of rotation in the first place enough to be meaningful.

Just fyi, you should run in the rotation that is opposite to the rotation of the stars for maximum dps :) running the same way will make it take longer for a star to hit, the only time you'd want to run in the same direction is if the damage isn't just a single instance but a damage while in contact with the orb and also that you can run around fast enough to effectively keep the same star on the target ^^
