Cuba has given a lot of wonderful music and arts to the whole world. I hope that we Cubans, once we are free again, will be able to know more and honor as a nation so many people who came out from Cuba and preserved in some way the Cuban spirit. Cuba is a small nation that has been suffering for 61 years.

Yes, Sammys mothers father was from Spain. His mother was born in New York. Her mother was afro cuban descent.

Sammy mentioned in his autobiography "Yes, I Can" that he has a younger sister named Ramona and that Elvera sent the child to live with relatives. There isn't a lot of info about Ramona out there. Do you know anything about her or what happened to her?

Ramona is dead. Her mother Elvira died in 2000, just a year prior to Ramona who died in 2001.

The reason she was not mentioned often by him bc She left him at the age of 3 and raised his sister: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYnTY2qtbdCiY9U As in rolled out no visits etc. He said he met her in passing at the age of 12. They did not develop a relationship until he left the army after WWII. He had to find her and would go to her job to visit her. I'm glad they ended up being in each other's lives but she was not mom of the year. Lol. She was truly a hidden figurer. ..seriously though great videos love. #Subscribed

Let’s set this record straight! Sammy was taken from her and put into show business by his father and his “uncle” Wil Mastin. Sammy Davis, Jr. never had a formal education. They lied about his age saying he was a midget and had him sleeping in bus depots and performing in clubs under age. She wanted her child and desired for him to have an education.

When she divorced Sammy's father they mutually decided that the girl would be raised by her and the boy would be raised by him that is how it occurred! The father took Sammy on the road for his dancing shows and that's why I Sammy didn't meet his mother for so many years... but they did end up being extremely close after he started his teen years💙💜

Elvera Sanchez Davis and Sammy Davis Sr. separated when Sammy Davis Jr. was three years of age in 1928. Sammy was raised by his father from the age of three onward. At the age of three, Sammy began his career in vaudeville with his father, Sammy Davis Sr. and was part of the Will Mastin Trio.
