I buried a 30 gallon plastic barrel with a screw on water tight lid in the ground to store my tools and extra food in. Every time I go to my cabin I bring extra non perishable food and things like extra nails ,screws ,matches and some medical supplies to put in the barrel to have if I ever need them. I now have enough tools,food,medical supplies and things like soap to last me weeks if I should ever need them. The barrel was light weight and easy to carry on my back once I made a harness to carry it. I rotate the food even though they are mostly dehydrated foods just to make sure they stay good. My tools I use like my saws ,hammers and small axe are safe and I don't have to worry about someone taking them.

Olá Alex. Como gosto do frio, acho a estada na Big cabana subterrânea uma maravilha! Gostei da receita de pimentão recheado. Os meus são com carne moída já cozida, feitos em uma panela, todos arrumadinhos em volta de uma latinha fechada com pedrinhas no centro para deixá-los em pé. Fecho a tampinha deles com palitos. Brilliant home Alex, the work you and Sergio put into it was worth it, that is an amazing place to escape to. With electric lights, running water, a new firewood splitter, it has almost all the comforts of civilization without the hassle and bustle of the city. All you need is a freezer/fridge unit so you don't have to pack your food in every trip and a little garden patch for growing fruit and veggies and you could live there for weeks/months at a time!

I love the addition of the new woodcutter! It will make getting your kindling ready so much easier that using the hatchet. A long hike to be sure, but well worth it. LOL, I predicted you would be adding electricity to the magic cabin! I suggest you look into different power solutions. Depending on how close you are to the river, you might be able to get a hydroelectric generator kit. However, a solar panel might suit your needs just fine. Good luck for the coming year.

So sorry this wonderful house got flooded out. I had no idea you were on a flood plain. I saw the arrival by canoe so many times - but it always seemed you were climbing a hill to get to the house. it must have been so upsetting to see the water damage. Glad that you've repaired it pretty well, though. When I think of all that work - how HARD you worked to build it . . .

To this South Texan it looks very cold. 50 degrees F is heavy coat weather. Today it is overcast here at the lake so this video fit in quite well. We usually only get a week or to of spring. You still have snow there, No Thank You! We used our wood stove twice this winter. I'm still burning European white birch that is imported by Home Depot. It's the same wood you use and it burns real well. Stay warm and I hope your health continues to improve. Cheers from Canyon Lake, TX.

That kindling splitter is a nice addition, Alex. You can even leave a stash of kindling already split so will be quicker to start the fire in the wood stove when you arrive at your underground cabin.

Or he could buy a pair of waterproof boots. I wear them all the time outdoors. They have what's called a Goretex lining that wicked away sweat and keeps water out 100%. I love them. However, I'm not sure if they have them where he lives.
