I never have thought that there is so much history behind the furniture in the TfL trains, trams and buses. Awesome to watch!!

Thank you. Fascinating to learn more about moquette. I volunteer at the Long Shop Museum and we are restoring a Garrett trolleybus, one of 3 known surving examples. The interioir fixtures and fittings were gutted for conversion to a caravan/summerhouse, and at some stage we will replace the seating

I cannot get enough of these hangouts, or moquette, seems like it's not only me that will sniff the exhibits (ie. tiles at the Acton depot). Getting my geek on has never felt so trendy! Love to you all, keep safe and looking forward to months and months of more hangouts! x

Anyone know when the new central line moquette will be available in products?

Alex I I know the answer to your quiz but I wouldn’t like to embarrass Chris Nix. Reason is that I live next door to Chris so it wouldn’t be fair if I entered. My wife and I have learnt so much about the London underground by watching you guys, keep up the good work.

3themill4 that’s so sweet, so generous and so honest. I’d never have known. Did you know Mr Nix has a enviable collection in that shed of his?!

Back in the days when we could all travel freely, I noticed that the moquette on odd seats on the Metropolitan line were looking frayed and worn. Is this just down to people putting their feet on seats or a bad batch of material?
@alexgrundon23464 жыл бұрын
ApplianceHistorian undoubtedly fret. Never ceases to amaze me how people seem to think opposite seats are some kind of pouffe. Plus, the fabric is guaranteed for 5 years but who knows how often the fabric was changed on trains which themselves (if we’re talking about the old A Stock) dated back to 1960. Moquette is so hard-wearing.

As one of the editors of LondonReconnections.com, I gather interesting transport links from all over the world for my Friday Reads and Monday's Friday Reads column, with Hidden London Hangouts featured a number of times. And I just realised that I have posted some moquette links as well, that the team and the viewers would love, notably this one www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-25/a-global-review-of-public-transit-seat-cover-designs (seat cover being the North American term for moquette), well worth checking out.

A LOT of work to buy the samples, cut them to optimise pattern repeats and overlock. There are three volumes of those binders! So pleased when it was done though and very handy for today’s Hangout.

It looks really wonderful and I too have framed a bit of rt & then etched a rounded glass over it, but nothing like a sample book👍👍👍

@@chrisnix6352 I’m probably a bit late to this (only three years!) but what it seems as though very few people actually realise is that the Piccadilly Line’s Barman moquette is slightly different to that on the other lines Barman is used- the blue is slightly darker, and the light blue is replaced with more white.

Can u actually breathe through that Chris?
@alexgrundon23464 жыл бұрын
stig roo he probably has a pipe to an oxygen tank out of sight 😂
@chrisnix63524 жыл бұрын
Yes - the fabric is pretty porous so it’s very easy to breathe through!
