These chats have been the only thing I have been able to concentrate on in a couple of months. Your presentation and demeanor are joyous and hopeful and illuminating. Endless thanks for your completely charming work. You literally make life better. And you made me a tile fan. Who knew?

Hi all, another wonderful evening viewing. I love everything from the old BBC style testcard and countdown to the fabulous content. I love the tiles, the hidden passages and all the history. Don't worry guys you all look great! The 60s gave us many things we enjoy nowadays but architectural appreciation was not a highlight of the 60s. I think Sidi was going to tell us more about the Euston Portico but there was so much great info. I have done some research and apparently the majority of the massive stones were thrown into the River Lea, so they could be recovered and it rebuilt. That said it is such a pity that the beautiful tiles old station entrance and the electricity substation are going to be demolished. I enjoy every moment of your shows. Thank you all. John

Great episode as usual team. Euston was my 1st Hidden London, and then I went 55 Broadway in the afternoon. My highlights were the exchange ticket office, and the posters, and trying to visualise how today's passenger numbers might have negotiated those narrow tunnels if there had been no improvement/modernisation!!

Hi guys. Thanks for another great programme. I did the Euston tour last year. Really interesting. My favourite poster is the Midland Pullman. The Blue Pullmans were such iconic trains and its a crying shame none of them were preserved as is the case for the Doric arch. I heard there were plans to rebuild it as part of the new HS2 station but that plan seems to have gone quiet. Regarding the lightbox inserts in the earlier Johnston typeface I chatted to Chris on Instagram about this and have emailed the museum retail department. They replied to me saying they would pass the suggestion on but have no current plans to produce any extra inserts. I'd like an UndergrounD one. Hopefully if enough people show interest they will consider commissioning a set. Look forward to next weeks episode Rob :)

I noticed on the southbound bank branch platform what looks like some original tiles through the vents above the platform and maybe even some poster remains. Looks like there was originally a cross-over bridge there, not mentioned in this episode.

That Midland Pullman poster at Euston is really interesting because the Midland Pullman was important at the time because the normal Euston-Manchester service was disrupted by the WCML electrification project in the early sixties. The Midland Pullman ran not from Euston but St Pancras, and was done specifically to be an alternative to the WCML service during this period. Once the full Electric service from Euston started in 1966 the Midland Pullman was replaced by the Electric Euston based Manchester Pullman.

Good afternoon LT Museum! I just had a question for this Saturday’s Hidden London Hangouts episode about Euston Station . Originally when opened in 1907, Euston had 3 Entrances: one by the C&SLR, one of the CCE&HR and the 3rd one was a shared entrance by the 2 companies that emerged onto platforms 2 & 3 of the Euston Mainline National Rail Station . However, both of the Companies' separate exits were closed as early as 1914 and all passengers used the 'shared' Entrance/ Exit and ticket hall located between platforms 2 & 3 of Mainline Station until the 1960's. The Shared/ Combined entrance’s Underground tunnels and Lift Shafts are the ones that people are given the Hidden London Tour of, including the interchange passageway between the 2 companies C&SLR and CCE&HR. I have always heard of the C&SLR Entrance building that it was demolished in 1933 and the CCE&HR Leslie Green Entrance building is due to be demolished in 2020 due to HS2 works (Hidden London tours are also shown in the CCE&HR building) . However, I have not heard anything about the current state of the ‘shared’ entrance/ exit that lead directly to Euston Mainline Station platforms 2 & 3 that was used until the 1960's. I always wonder what remnants survive today of the ‘shared’ mainline station exit/ entrance that closed in the 1960’s. Hence, would you mind letting me know what (if at all) survives of the ‘Shared’ Entrance/ Exit of Euston Tube Station that led to the Mainline Station and closed in the 1960’s? Here's a picture of it during it's open days from the LT Museum collection: bit.ly/2WFYQx1 I look forward to be hearing from you and thanks :-)

Thank you so much for these videos, they are wonderful for all of us Tube geeks. Given these are chronicling the stories of past or present Hidden London places that have formed the tours offered by LT Museum, are there any other places / Tube Stations that you would really like to add to the tours or that you’d like to discuss here?

Another brilliant episode. Just wondering if you have any further information on the reconstruction of the Euston Arch? I think it's sat down at the bottom of the Prescott Channel long enough. Any information I could find on the matter date back to 2016 and end there. Thanks for any further details you might have!

Thank you. Absolutely fascinating again. I’d love to know more about the deep tunnels and trains before they were widened. They’re pretty cramped today; I wonder what travelling in the even smaller trains was like. While we’re on that subject I’d love to know more about the physical experience of travelling on the underground trains. But maybe that’s coming up... you’re looking at bluebells but it’s late September as I watch this. Keep up the good work.

Why did the Met put their station at Euston Square instead of close to the main-line station? Anyone??
@alexmckenna11713 жыл бұрын
Query for Chris: It is planned to connect the new HS2 station to Euston Square underground station, but it has always puzzled me why they didn’t place the Met station near the main line station itself. The track passes near Euston, indeed the East end of the Met’s platform is quite near, but there is no entrance there. I did see reference to an over-run tunnel under Euston Road for the London and Birmingham locos, way back in time, which might be the obstruction? Anyone know the facts?

@alexgrundon23464 жыл бұрын
Alan Rookard yup it was the Bank branch - former City and South London Railway. And the northbound train or running tunnels to that redundant and now filled-in platform still exist. You can catch a glimpse as your go north from Kings Cross to Euston on the Bank branch
