Hidden Mountain Oasis, Big Bear's Bear Creek! This was a perfect place to camp during the summer!

In this overland adventure we head to Big Bear's Bear Creek in the San Bernardino National Forest. This local trail (City Creek - 1N09) is fun but not overly difficult as long as you are good with pin striping and not driving a Bronco! The pay off is making it to the creek on a hot day! I've driven my 2 wheel drive 1961 Corvair throughout that entire area. Smooth easy roads except when spring melt away is happening as there is major clay mud coming up from the way of the dam.

This trip was before the body mount chop but just driving it around town I have no more rubbing. I will give it the full review after our Colorado trip! I will let the Trailhawk share his thoughts on the RTT but what he told me was no solution is perfect…

Thanks for watching. You shouldn't have any trouble with your stock 4X4 Tacoma this time of year. If it is raining or snow I would avoid it.

I'm going to go ahead and assume this whole area is currently closed due to the wildfires. Is there a reliable source for updates on when it eventually is reopened?

Sadly I think it was totally destroyed during the line fire and I would expect the area to reopen until summer of 2025

I think it had been closed north of Angeles Oaks but it was clear at least to that point when we went at the End of July.

Unfortunately I don’t have the coordinates but I can tell you it is on Bear Creek upstream from the confluence. The rains can play havoc on it so I know it looks different every time I go.

I have a Jackery 1000, 500 and 240 along with a 100 watt solar panel. Depending on the season and how long I am out dictates which one or ones i take.

Yes, the road can get pretty bad in some places and down by the river it is very sandy and rocky.
