I'm constantly amazed at how brilliant you are Matt. And your refusal to deviate from perfection is admirable.

At the start, I was trying to figure out how you'd get a 40-min. video out of making a single door. At the end, I'm amazed you were able to tell the story in 40 min. Nice work, and thanks for showing how you overcame all the surprises!

Wow, when I saw what you were getting into with those hinges it brought back memories of long evenings of precision work in red oak. Mortising four concealed hinges with minimal instructions in German down to a millimeter clearance and no possibility of fudging mistakes. It turned out pretty good for a novice. You did a good job there, the thing is that your work, when done right, doesn't show, not like on, say, a nice cabinet like you have created.

Those SOSS hinges are crazy expensive. I once got a box of 6 at an estate sale for $1. I felt like a bank robber paying on the way out.

I used to have a heavy front door and the pull was held in with set screws. No bueno. Set screws get loose over time and the handle kept pulling off. Your solution is much better option.

Matt, A composite nailer is your friend for stabilizing work on the CNC. Great solution for the “Missing” Jack stud! A little gadget that’s really helpful for installing heavy doors and windows is a WinBag air wedge. I’ve used it several times to remove and reinstall my heavy mahogany front door when we’ve had appliances delivered.

Nice nice nice. I guess you could have followed through with the torsion box idea and just shimmed it off the built surface to get the twist. I can say from experience that a torsion box with a twist will stay that way forever. 1.5" thick MDF is seriously heavy. I hope those fancy hinges can take it :-).

My shop teacher, who would take us to build cabins around the state, would call this "twist" in your door jam, how the old carpenter built, this was in the late sixties. I doubt anyone will notice a quarter-inch variance. It is like when I played in the high school band and someone missed a note, we all heard it but no one noticed it in the audience.
