This is an exploration into the hidden pockets that Zach Hill referred to in his Modern Drummer interview. One idea he spoke about to generate new ideas and creative parts was to play a rhythm that "won't work," on top of another idea. Then he would find at least two points where the rhythms coincide in the right way, and by emphasizing those points of cohesion, be able to make them gel and flow together.
In this clip I took a beat that came to me in a quick jam between lessons and djembe class, and I cut the clip I liked out and put it against this backing track. I listen to the rhythm of the backing track and hear how my part would have to fit against its rhythm in order to jive. My eighth notes perhaps would need to become quarter note triplets, or quintuplets, etc.
This is just a quick demonstration of a profound concept to force creativity. Sounds good with head phones to me.
