I haven’t been since the mid seventies. I seem to remember you didn’t have to pay to go in, you bought strips of six, ten or twenty tickets , although some rides needed more than one ticket.

Yes! You used to buy tickets. I can't remember what the tickets looked like in the 70's, but in the 80's and 90's you bought books of tickets with A, B and C class rides on them, and each ride said which ticket it took, depending on how thrilling it was. Great memories!

@@lindatannock You could buy strips of tickets or pay per ride.A, B or C class .When the Big one opened it was classed an AA ride.A , B or C class rides carried the same fee in each class.

That’s right you could enter free, especially if you wasn’t into going on rides but wanted to go with family and friends, now you have to purchase a wristband to enter which is why I think the park has gone downhill, its a rip off especially if you don’t like rides or can’t go on rides due to disability. it’s not as glorious as it used to be at the Pleasure Beach

Another wonderful nostalgic treat. My favourites as a child in the 70’s were the goldmine, sitting in the Magnolia cafe watching the river cave boats and the goldmine cars going through, I remember the pony rides and the old man who worked it, telling my mum and dad I rode like princess Anne!! Do you also remember an enclosed sand pit play area that had windows in the rough finished walls? Oh what lovely memories. Thank you.

Loved this , as a senior citizen I have fond memories of the old rides at BPB , the reel , Noahs Ark , the Whip , Wild Mouse , cable cars , monorail, the black monster ride then later Stars Wars , Goldmine , Enterprise. I still ride all the coasters today . Originally you just paid cash for each ride , then later it was books of tickets .

She never lived that down and we still laugh abut it now 😆 I have so many happy memories of Blackpool and the pleasure beach. My mum is from Heywood near Bury and we used travel over on Yelloways Coaches every time we visited my Nan…..I had my first knickerbocker glory, first rollercoaster ride, first donkey ride in Blackpool and as a 70’s girl I have albums filled with photos from the pleasure beach…. spent my early years living near the Pleasure Beach. I lived near Blackpool until I was 18 and know more now from watching this than I did living there. I went on the Grand National about age 10 and seriously thought I was going to die as you had no restraint belts and just a bar to hold, you floated out of the seat. The Wild Mouse was awful, minor injuries were common on it, I have been on more modern roller coasters with loops and enjoyed them, would never repeat going on the Grand National

Great video, loving the series as been going to the Pleasure Beach since I was a young lad in the late 70s/early 80s and your footage brought back a lot of memories. Surprised you never mentioned the Wallace & Gromitt ride which is in the same building that housed the Gold Mine ride which uses the exact same track layout, just a new theming. That ride was always my favourite when I was a kid 😎

My Uncle was born in Blackpool and now lives in Lytham, he's loving this series, it's taking him back to Saturday afternoons as a youngster (he's 85 now🤫).

Wonderful series. Working at the Pleasure Beach was a very different affair, £2 an hour and everyone dreaded Mr Thompson walking round with his camera! He'd never say anything but his left hand man, can't remember his name via my Manager would roast me if I didn't have my name badge on! Happy times though and now I'm living in Southsea on the south coast it's lovely to see the history after being brought up in Blackpool and I still have my old BPB pay slips. Fortunately now this BPB boy has done good and BPB was part of that growing up story 👍🏻

Thanks Darren. Funny enough, I'm in Southsea right now visiting family. Just leaving to head to Brighton to visit the rest and then home.

Was it Jim Rowlands? (I think I'm getting his name right). If you look up the PB series that was on TV years ago, you'll see him. It's on YT if you look. It was a fun series! I used to work for Hot Ice, but I was skating in Europa Park in Germany. Used to spend time in Blackers as I had friends there (and the Stageworks offices were across from the park).

@@AdventureMe Those horses on the derby racer used to go up and down and forwards and back along the groove but it was stopped for some reason. You need to do an old visit to Southport pleasure land and whats left of Morecambe frontier land as was... Keep up the good work. Oh and see if you can get inside noahs ark... Used to be a fun house type thing.
