Thank you for posting this video! My father built this airstrip at The Hidden Splendor uranium mine in 1978. He landed his plane there with the help of a full moon, on April 20th, 1978, according to my mother's journal. He was rescuing my mother who was totally alone in this eerie, but beautiful canyon. He said, "I had a feeling she needed me." So romantic!

Hidden splendor was already there in the 1960’s. I never went in there myself but my employer Jim Hurst of Green River Aviation Co would occasionally make a trip in there with his wife Helen in a 180 just to hike and for an outing. He was a bonified bush pilot, not a weekend wannabe. It was great having him as a mentor.

I was thinking you mounted the camera on the right wing again. I thought, "Why is he landing to the left of the runway? I know he has bushwheels, but..." Finally figured it out about the time you touched down. I think I'm thinking too slow to fly this approach! Great shot as always! Keep em coming!

This is one of my all time favorite approaches. If I'm within 100 miles of HS I go out of my way just to fly this. I have two vids of this strip. One in my Sky-blue Skylane and one in a Maule.

Matt is right, this is a great approach and strip. I love Matt's videos. Funny thing is, I learned how to approach HS from this very video. Thanks Matt...LOL I have a video of my own in my straight tail 182A going into HS here on KZbin.

I am amazed by that video. The narrow field of view eliminates the prob. Great. I have been there 4 or 5 times and it doesn't look that good in person. I assume the camera was mounted with Velcro or?

Great job of filming it. I've landed there and it's hard to explain to people what the approach is like without actually showing them. Thanks for sharing that! SkyChick

What a flight. Where are you based? I will be in the US next year and plan to fly up from LA to Oshkosh with a friend. It would be cool to meet you and possibly fly into some of these strips with you. Regards JP
