Happy New Year! 2022 brings new content and new customer boat builds my way at #brigadeboats ! Today I highlight a project within a recently cometed customer project- adding built in tackle storage!
The project is a full interior restoration with modern day upgrades to a 1997 Basstracker Pro Team 17. My customer had a wonderful idea to inclose the awkward open area in front of the steering consol and behind the front deck. Upon enclosing that space, we could add a built in vertically mounted tackle storage system box! Im all about unique ideas especially when adding some function so I took on the project. I also opted to film the process because i liked the project and document it here in a step by steo fashion!
In this video I'll introduce you to the #jonboat project , as well as the tackle storage box we are using. Ill explain my thought process and walk you through all the build and installation steps. This covers a lot of details, from framing, riveting, cutting and sealing wood, making templates, carpet wrapping, and final installation of the tackle storage box. Of course I'll show you some tips and tricks and tools used and needed along the way. Thanks for tuning in and i hope you enjoy.

Fantastic work. The poster board template idea beats cardboard all to pieces, and it is super-cheap...picked up 20 sheets of 22" x 28" white poster board at Hobby Lobby today for 29 cents each!!!

A+ brother… as always!!! Question? Building my boat now from ground up, I can’t decide between carpet or Eva…I like the concept of carpet because decals,as a commercial artist I got some cool ideas in my head but anyways,what is the ideal gap to leave for carpet or Eva? I’m doing all aluminum…

20 oz carpet 1/2" gap 3/8" if you want the to be extremely tight when opening

Yes, typically 1/2 inch gap for 20oz carpet. With eva foam those gaps can obviously be a lot tighter. We go with 1/4 or less on our lids that have antiflood tracks. But great question, when I do a build most do not realize we custom fab the lids specifically for carpet or foam which is why a lot of my restorations get carpet back in. Otherwise we would have massive 1/2 inch gaps eith foam which would look and function quite bad.
