Listened to this podcast yesterday and I was amazed, like Frank already predicted, to 'see' things in the Bible that I had never seen like that before, it's just so remarkable to see how rich Scripture is, and that we are (probably) never done by studying it and eating from it, because it's layer onto layer onto layer. So so so many things I 'knew'.. but never saw in a different light, or in connection with what Jesus said or went to elsewhere in the NT. Jesus was right, when He said: all Scripture speaks of me, we really need to read the Old Testament with those eyes.. Maybe you want to consider putting this interview on KZbin too, Frank?

We have 2 sets of eyes - our natural eyes we use to see the world and our spiritual eyes we use to see the ways of God. Our access to the kingdom is through our spiritual eyes of faith, prayer, learning God’s word and relationship with our Father. To receive from the kingdom requires you to see through your spiritual eyes and not your natural eyes. Take time to exercise your spiritual eyes. Let God teach you the dance of closing your natural eyes to let your spiritual eyes dictate your walk, ways, and response. The things your spiritual eyes can perceive can lead to creative ideas, a vital solution, guidance, peace, healing, better understanding... and so much more in our realities. Practice closing your eyes to doubt and your understanding. Open your spiritual eyes of faith and allow yourself to rest in the ways, and leading of God. With each time your ability to walk with God gets stronger and clearer.

Critics love to slam the Bible as the writings of Bronze Age primitives and yet the Bible still has not been proven false, fiction or outdated. In fact, not only has much of it been proven correct by historians and archaeologists but it’s just as relevant to the issues of man today and actually cutting edge by delivering tomorrow’s news from 2000+ years ago. Not bad for some uneducated sheep herders. Or we can just accept that it’s God’s word and He’s proving Himself true all the time. Personally, I believe the latter.

A survey by the Bible Society concluded that around 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion. That would certainly be something for a book of fairy tales. This figure is only for the printed version. The bible was out producing any writings when it was painstakingly being handwritten before the invention of the printing press. There has to be something in somebody spending almost their entire life copying a book just so others can know the message.

One problem I see is that humans canonized the Bible. We rejected so many books until we got to our current Bible, which isn't set in stone 100%. The Catholics, Mormons, and Baptists all disagree on canonization, for example. The other problem I see is that, looking at this from the outside, the Bible doesn't all flow together. Once you get to the "Acts of the Apostles," it seems like Christianity is it's own new religion. Many Christians say, "Trusting in Jesus' desth/resurrection is the key to Heaven." Yet that doctrine isn't found until the Epistles. The Tanakh didn't teach this, and neither did Jesus in the Gospels.
@tylerjones35143 жыл бұрын
Canonization is not an issue. The main thread of the Bible is following Jesus' lineage and the events occurring before hand. If you want to add the Apocrypha in, you can. I don't really see an issue. The Tanakh contains sacrifices being made. What was Jesus? The final sacrifice, the Lamb of God. A perfect, spotless Lamb. Judaism is just the incomplete form of Christianity. Now, as to why we believe in Jesus' death and resurrection being essential, is because the Jews of that day had seen Jesus and yet did not believe in Him rising from the dead, even with the report from Roman soldiers at the grave. In fact, as far as I've heard, most atheists accept Jesus as having existed, just don't believe He was God, or that He rose again. This is why Paul points out that, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9) Hope this helps! God bless!
@keyman66893 жыл бұрын
Humans canonized the Bible. Humans wrote the Bible. But all with the guidance of the spirit of God. I don't have a problem with it. God can preserve his Word thru humans. If we had made a mistake with some aspect of it, he would have made a correction. The OT was complete and understood by the Jewish people which books were canon. The NT was determined by the early church, which set the standard of apostles, eyewitnesses to the resurrection, or people with access to eyewitnesses (i.e. Luke). The canon is complete and has been for the majority of Christians. Catholicism is a close relative of Christianity, and in fact I expect there are many Catholic Christians, but some of their teachings and practices seem off base with my understanding of Christianity. Mormonism is not Christianity, even though they have the Bible among their other religious writings. They may share "lingo" with Christianity, but their definitions are very different.
@zeddicuszorrander35993 жыл бұрын
@@keyman6689 I don't necessarily have a problem with the Holy Spirit communicating to people. The problem I see is that every Christian claims to have a deep, intimate relationship with God, yet God communicates something different to each person. So, it makes me wonder exactly what the Holy Spirit is saying, and how we determine the Holy Spirit is the one speaking.
@keyman66893 жыл бұрын
The flow of the Bible is in two distinct pieces. The OT which points to Jesus and the NT in which Jesus fulfills OT prophecies and the church is formed following his resurrection. That's a nutshell version. The OT reveals God and the ups and downs of his chosen people. There are prophecies of the coming Messiah, but much of it is mysterious and not clear. Even in the NT gospels, his own disciples didn't fully understand his teaching, and what his true purpose was. They expected him to be a king and set up an earthly kingdom at that time. It wasn't until after the resurrection that everything was explained about what it all meant. That's why you see the setting up of the church in the epistles. Once Jesus completed the sacrifice for sin on the cross, the mysteries of the OT prophecies were made clear. In a way, it is like there's a "new religion" with the setting up of the church in the epistles. It is a New Testament. A new promise of God. But when you really look at the Old vs New, it is more of a completion of the same. The Old simply being a temporary promise of God until the time when Jesus would complete it. The OT sacrificial system was a picture of what Jesus would ultimately fulfill and make obsolete.
@zeddicuszorrander35993 жыл бұрын
@@keyman6689In order for prophecies to be useful, we must know exactly what they mean ahead of time. Otherwise, I could say, "Oh you just misunderstood the prophecy. It really means X," or another could claim it means Y, and no one can argue one way or the other because the passage is so ambiguous. The other thing is that, from my understanding of Judaism, the prophetic Messianic passages are clear as far as the list of requirements for the Messiah and what will happen if the next life. So, when Jesus does something different than that, it throws off the whole continuity of Scripture.

Yes, if you randomly select a group of books from a library, they would be unlikely to follow a coherent theme. But the Bible isn't a randomly selected group of books, whether it's divinely inspired or not. It was written by, and selected by people following a specific religion. _Of course_ it's going to follow the themes of that religion. If a book wasn't harmonious with their doctrine to some extent, it wouldn't have been included in the canon. Do you also conclude that the Vedas are divinely inspired for the same reason? I doubt it.

For anybody that thinks you have to "stop sinning" or be a "good person" or "repent of your sins" to be saved, this is for you, you're confused on a fundamental part of the Christian faith, it will change your eternal destination if you believe it. There are times in human history where God deals with different people in different ways called dispensations. And Paul says we are in the dispensation of Grace thru faith. Why? Well, let's start with Abraham. Abraham was justified by his faith in God. Moses was given the Torah/Law/Commandments and you had to follow it to go to Heaven and when you sinned you would have to sacrifice a lamb to cover that sin. Jesus Christ tells us that He came ONLY to the Lost sheep of Israel, which are the Jews, preaching the Kingdom Gospel trying to set up His 1000 year Millennial Reign as King, which they denied and killed Him. Jesus expected the Jews to not only follow the Torah/Law/Commandments, like Him, but added to it, essentially making it harder, but they rejected Him and killed Him. Jesus, after His death and resurrection went to Paul and REVEALED how salvation works today, which is by faith alone in His Blood Atonement. If you go anywhere in the Bible for salvation besides Paul's Epistles, which are the books Romans thru Philemon, you WILL pervert salvation, lower the power of Christ's Blood which is an absolute abomination and go to Hell. Jesus Christ took the punishment in our place, we have NOTHING to do with it besides giving Christ 100% faith in what He did for us and when you do you are sealed with the Holy Spirit, given Christ's righteousness and can never lose salvation. Scripture time!😁😁 Let's start with the Gospel of Salvation: KJV 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: KJV Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. KJV Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. KJV Romans 3:22-26 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. KJV Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. KJV Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: KJV Galatians 2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. I hope you put your full trust in what Jesus Christ has done for us because He is the Way, Truth and the Life and no one will get to the Father except THRU Him! God bless you!

“Hidden themes in the Bible?” _Paul fails to follow Jesus' teachings._ _Paul proclaims (in 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy) I am “ordained/appointed” to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher._ *1 Timothy 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.* *2 Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.* _For those that do not read or follow Jesus' commandments closely, the error(s) in what Paul has proclaimed can be easy to overlook._ _Here are some of Jesus's commandments:_ *Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, Christ; and all ye are brethren.* *Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.* *Matthew 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, Christ.* (Matthew 23:8 & 10 Master,G2519) καθηγητής From a compound of G2596 and G2233; a guide, that is, (figuratively) a teacher: - master. Matthew 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: *for one is your [Teacher], Christ; and all ye are brethren.* Matthew 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Matthew 23:10 *Neither be ye called [teachers]: for one is your [Teacher], Christ.* _In Matthew 23:8 Jesus makes it clear he is the one Teacher (for one is your [Teacher], Christ)_ _In Matthew 23:10 Jesus makes it clear to neither be called teachers (Neither be ye called [teachers])._ _Also in verse 10 Jesus repeats what he had just said in verse 8. (...for one is your [Teacher], Christ)_ _Paul fails to keep Jesus' commandment “neither be ye called [teachers]...” even (in the same verse and in conjunction) as he proclaims himself to be an apostle._ _In other words; Paul is breaking Jesus' commandment not to be called teacher(s) at the same time as declaring himself as an apostle._ *1 Timothy 2:7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.* _Paul repeats this claim as an apostle and a teacher in 2 Timothy 1:11._ *2 Timothy 1:11 Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.* _Once again Paul is breaking Jesus' commandment not to be called teacher(s) all while claiming himself to be an apostle._ _Furthermore in 2 Timothy Paul proclaims; _*_“ Whereunto I am appointed...”_* *#1 Question:* _Who had appointed Paul “a teacher;” after Jesus had instructed not to be called such; in_ Matthew 23:10 *Neither be ye called [teachers]: for one is your [Teacher], Christ.* _Paul claims likewise in 1 Timothy 2:7 _*_Whereunto I am ordained..._* Moreover *#1 Question:* _Who (against Jesus' commandment of (Matt __23:10__) not to be called a teacher) “ordained” and or “appointed” Paul as “a teacher?”_ _None of Jesus' disciples would have had the authority to break any of Jesus' commandments, and to go and “ordained” or “appointed” Paul as “a teacher.”_ *_#2 Question:_*_ Or is it perhaps, we are to believe that Jesus broke his own commandment and came to Paul privately (came to him secretly as it were) and “ordained” and “appointed” Paul as “a teacher” against Jesus' own commandment?_ *_#3 Question_*_ Or worst, should we assume that God “ordained” and “appointed” Paul as “a teacher” against Jesus' commandment? However If this were true (being beforehand Jesus declared he is our one Teacher; for one is your Teacher, Christ) this would mean God “ordained” and “appointed” Paul in the position of an Antichrist (which means in the place of Christ or instead of Christ.)_ _The above questions are mere speculations which seemingly can not fit as explanations as to Paul's claims._ _The important fact to remember is; for in effort to conform with Paul's statements (found in 1 Timothy 2:7 and 2 Timothy 1:11) it is of a necessity to break Jesus' commandment; _*_Neither be ye called [teachers]: for one is your [Teacher], Christ._* _Paul's statements in 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy break Jesus' commandment. Thus does not follow Jesus' teachings and Paul is a usurper of his self claimed position of teacher of the Gentiles._

@@cyberfilmproductions8987 Wikipedia sums it up nicely: An echo chamber refers to situations in which beliefs are amplified or reinforced by communication and repetition inside a closed system and insulated from rebuttal. By participating in an echo chamber, people are able to seek out information that reinforces their existing views without encountering opposing views, potentially resulting in an unintended exercise in confirmation bias. Echo chambers may increase social and political polarization and extremism. The term is a metaphor based on an acoustic echo chamber, in which sounds reverberate in a hollow enclosure.

The Bible is an amazing book but that doesn't mean it's true or divinely inspired. No I can't think of any other books that have been constantly worked on for hundreds or thousands of years, but that doesn't mean such works are impossible without divine intervention. How many times are books adapted into movies or shows decades after the books were written? The films have different writers, but they can stay pretty consistent with the themes of the original books despite not personally knowing the authors.
@horace93413 жыл бұрын
I doubt we will ever know that though, considering we are here but for a short time. There are many writings that have been around for hundreds or even thousands of years. How many can I name? But the bible I have known about even before I ever read it. Considering that 2.5 billion copies were printed between 1815 and 1975, but more recent estimates put the number at more than 5 billion, it’s sure going to take something special to top that. Could all those people who obtained one all be deluded, or could it be true?

@@horace9341 Yes the Bible is the most sold book in the world and second is the Quran. Is that surprising since the biggest religion in the world is Christianity and the second biggest is Islam? In both religions, people are likely to own several holy books and live in societies that tell them that such books are the only way to a moral life and salvation. Harry Potter is also a highly sold book despite many members of the religious community boycotting it for its use of magic and wizardry. It is astonishing then, that despite only being around for 20 years, it has already sold 500 million copies - that's 10% of the copies you said were sold of the Bible. To put it in perspective, if Harry Potter was sold for that same 160 year timespan, it would sell over 4 billion copies and if you got rid of all the superstitious Christians boycotting it, it would sell even more. Impressive, but I wouldn't argue that Harry Potter is a true story, nor would I say all of its readers are diluted. Popularity doesn't determine validity.

@@ADMusic1999 Harry Potter books will go out of fashion like Enid Blyton books when something else comes along. Whereas the bible has stood the test of time. The only society that I know of that says you have to own a holy book for a moral life is Islamic society, places like South America are predominantly Roman Catholic and are not encouraged to read a bible for themselves. Yet it continues to be the best seller of all time. I would say that in fact Bible reading is discouraged by a predominantly secular world.

@@joshuasalazar4316(apologies.. paraphrasing, as I dont have the bible in front of me. ) but God said let there be light. Then he calls the light day and the dark night. Later he creates the stars. The sun is a star and our position on the earth dictates whether it's day or night. Whoever wrote the bible clearly had no idea how celestial bodies are formed and behave. If there were divine interference in the authorship of the bible then basic facts like this would be accurate.
