I was able to confirm this happening in the same spot and that the worm seems to be the trigger before it happens. The ground will rumble the worm will surface and then the same spot will have a random amount of resources of sandstone and brimstone once the worm disappears and the sandstone blocks can be gypsum veins.

Saw the giant worm yesterday but I was on a acid chest run so I didn't go to investigate the ground and sand around where it popped up. As someone else said, what you found was likely the the remnants of the worm.

It has been in the game since the release of brimstone sands I have found 3 locations where it always happens after the worm shows itself

Every time raffle bones spawns, he blows up before I can kill him. It’s so annoying it’s happened 3+ times! If they nerf his spawn rates they could at least make him soloable - this is with my great sword DPS build too! Gets to about 20% health and blows up. Dumb game.

Skill issue. Never had one blow up, just do decent dps.

I would say to maybe try and use some range or a hatchet if you are having some issues with it even a hammer or spear helps with knock downs as well

Killing him is a huge pain for me as well. I have only successfully solo'd him once in several tries. It was with a 608GS hatchet Axe of the Abyss. Search the forums for my (buzz3791) May 2, 2022 post for more details showing skill tree. Folks say hit him with a bow from a distance and he won't start running away, which didn't work for me. I probably also had some Basic Lost Trophies on my 3 houses and possibly lost coating on my weapons along with a honing stone buff.

I knew there would be one idoit in the comments saying it was a skill issue. I was laying into him it was not a skill issue it’s a game issue, if he’s super rare he should be easier to take down. I can almost bet this will be fixed in a future patch.
