The purchase and employment of these boats allows those in charge of the navy, whether naval personnel, civil service or politicians, to claim that they're doing their bit for national security. It's a pathetic attempt to justify their positions without spending money. There's an element of "fiddling whilst Rome burns" here or even "the Emperor's new clothes". Someone is in for a rude awakening. The UK is woefully undefended and has been for 30 years. These vessels, suitable for basic seamanship training only, are the perfect example of treating national defence as if it's a luxury and not a necessity. Senior naval officers don't have the balls to stand up and say enough!
@1chish8 ай бұрын
@@russgrant512 Well lets just set aside your political word salad and get a simple fact out there: These ships are an integral part of the basic training regime for naval officers and crew. On THIS occasion that training took place on a NATO exercise calling on all the facets in which they had been trained and putting it all into use and context. So they very much play a prt in our national security. You think an Officer comes out of Dartmouth and skippers a Type 45 the following week? Quiote how you can connect a training ship being used for training with the rigmarole you peddled beats me. Maybe you just write this nonsense on any Royal Navy video....
@russgrant5128 ай бұрын
@@1chish I'm well aware of the role of these boats. I'm also well aware of the time it takes to train officers for command. Nowhere in my original reply did i say otherwise. These boats have been plying their training in one guise or another for quite some time. My point was less about training boats being used for training and more about the complete lack of multi role capability of those training boats. There's quite alot of alternative vessels that could have been purchased to fulfil a training role, which in pretty short order could undertake a more active defence role. I'm equally aware of the lack of spine that senior officers show when faced with cost cutting and standing up to political meddling. The navy knows it needs better and more capable craft, but there is an ever present need to protect their already long careers by not rocking the boat. no doubt you know better...

Can this class vessel be used to protect our waters from small boats? I find it amazing that every day we are effectively invaded, yet the RN does nothing. What was, not that long ago, an impregnable fortress, guarded by the worlds most powerful Navy, is now a free for all, which I would find a little embarrassing if I were in the RN rn. Why is our coastline leaking like flaming colandar? Is anybody in charge? The coastguard bring them here for some reason, whereas these newish Royal Navy small vessels could escort, or tow them back to whence they came, legally, on the open seas, approx 14 miles out or more, critically, before they are in British waters, or territory, can we not even blockade ourselves? what a joke.
