As a lesbian, I can't force myself to look at guys and be attracted to them. You can't turn straight or gay. This man is obviously lying to himself and piling on the self guilt to "atone" for his sins when he didn't really do anything wrong. That's the pain religion can cause. It can force you to abandon who you are to be told you are a horrible sinner to force you to worship someone who makes you repress your true self.

Michael Morris that'd be a hard statement to believe, you're only removing a SMALL piece of the variable that makes up a much much larger entity (this is not referring to God specifically but all the people who share the same thought of it) all the hatred in the world spawns from everyone disliking everyone, you can't tell me there is'nt a SINGLE person in the entire mass of 7 billion people that you don't have some form of disliking, does'nt even need to be hatred towards them just disliking! it starts with a small tiny insignificant one disliking of something that in time expands to other things and more people will feel that dislike and it infects them too! eventually the masses of people grow too large and eventually we have hatred build up from excess emotional pressure and then violence and other things start, TLDR : the entire universe is a great big mass of chaos that is ALWAYS changing and can have shape or can be shapeless, it is constantly hating others, itself, or loving others and itself it never stops going back and forth because the scale of which the chaos keeps flowing is impossible to even comprehend! (I can just barely grasp the imagination of it all!)

***** Of course religion itself cannot hurt anybody. But if you already have mental problems and low self-esteem like Joseph Martelly obviosly has, a system of rules like the Ten Commandments and all those other strange rules within the Bible can have a really bad inpact and cause a lot of self hatered as seen on this poor guy.
@joyble11 жыл бұрын
Joseph is trying too hard to hide away who he is. He's dropping one senseless claim after another and yet everyone can see over the wall he's trying to build around himself. You can't hear that "passion" in his voice by which you could tell that he really believes in his own words. He is a sad, broken man and I really feel sorry for him. He is not crazy, deluded or something like that, he just wants to be accepted, but unfortunately, after witnessing that sexual act and after seeing how society treats the gay people, he probably thought that he will be excluded, not from paradise, but from that same society that deprecates homosexuality. He's not afraid of God, he's afraid of man.

I can only say that I agree with you, and I feel so bad for Joseph Martelli. Having to live a life based on a lie and on self hatred supported by an ancient book breaks my heart. It also saddens me that Martelli apparently believes that every straight person is supposed to reproduce. So many straight men and women don't want (or can't like you said!) to have children; are they sinners too? Not according to Martelli, because they don't have sex with their own gender. I just can't wrap my head around his statements. I'm all for respecting other people's beliefs, but his I just can't seem to comprehend... I understand where he gets his ideas from, I just can't understand why he believes them.

@kaylyn71429 жыл бұрын
+FunkyDose the majority of you comment is based off of assumptions about me. and also, the points you present can easily be turned against themselves. I am going to assume that you are of christian faith, so how can you share an opinion on something such as atheism when you have not experienced it yourself. I usually do not make comments like the one I made earlier because I am accepting of all religions and am okay with whatever anyone chooses to practice and believe in. The reason I posted the above comment is because of the christians who do not accept anyone other than religious people or even just christians. It just bothers me that people can be so naive as to believe that anyone who isn't christian has a brainwashed perception. that is a hugely false statement to make. anyone can easily tell you that you are brainwashed for being christian and you will quickly deny that, and i will do the same. we are all "brainwashed" in our own ways and we have to accept that fact that everyone thinks differently and we all have different ideas of reality.
@FunkyDose9 жыл бұрын
+kaylyn Faith has nothing to do with religion. Well isn't lack of common, sixth sense, out of box, wide perspective and lack of experience - atheisms? All atheists who think only about themselves has the same view on everything which is based of what they have been told. ''Christians'' accept everyone that is what we believe in, we try to help and tell people how they can achieve ever, fully happy, lasting life. We love and accept everyone, what are you talking about? Doesn't matter if he is atheist or what ever. Just because you come across people who are ignorant, arrogant and represent themselves as a ''Christian'' which is majority and for a lot of reasons, doesn't mean that everyone is bad. Just like in everything - majority is always dumb and ignorant. Its not about what you choose, that is the biggest problem in man kind. Faith it self is not bad, people are bad. Kids like this one, twists everything to make us look bad. If you really knew what this is all about yourself, you wont ever judge anything by how others act, say or do. Have a nice day.

Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! George Carlin

Look at this guy. At first I thought it was just the discomfort of being on camera and anger that made him look this way, but if you put all that aside and read his body language, this guy is in serious pain. If it wasn't obvious by his self loathing, just everything about him says all the inner turmoil he is going through. And as a Christian, this pisses me off, because it's obvious that whatever "Christians" (I use that term loosely in regards for them) "helped" (again, loosely) him, they tore him apart. I cannot help but wonder if he was indoctrinated Clockwork Orange style. I'm joking but not, because that is basically what their "conversion therapy" does. This man was not helped at all, and for that I feel really bad. I laughed at his comments and poem, but at the end, I felt really sorry for him. This kind of shit needs to stop.

Deaths took place in concentration and extermination camps, ghettos, and through mass executions. Many victims of the Holocaust were gassed to death, whereas others died of starvation or disease or while working as slave labourers. Nazism and religion could not co-exist. Germany couldn't tolerate intervention of foreign influences like the Vatican; and priests, he said, were "black bugs" and "abortions in black cassocks. In Hitler's eyes, Christianity was a religion fit only for slaves; he detested its ethics in particular. Its teaching, he declared, was a rebellion against the natural law of selection by struggle and the survival of the fittest.(Extract from Hitler: a Study in Tyranny, by Alan Bullock) Into the early 1930s the German Centre Party, the German Catholic bishops, and the Catholic media had been mainly solid in their rejection of National Socialism. They denied Nazis the sacraments and church burials, and Catholic journalists excoriated National Socialism daily in Germany's 400 Catholic newspapers. The hierarchy instructed priests to combat National Socialism at a local level whenever it attacked Christianity. From 1940, the Nazis gathered priest-dissidents in dedicated clergy barracks at Dachau, where (95%) of its 2,720 inmates were Catholic (mostly Poles, and 411 Germans), 1034 died there. In Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany, the Nazis attempted to eradicate the church and over 1800 Polish Catholic clergy died in concentration camps; most notably, Saint Maximilian Kolbe. Influential members of the German Resistance included Jesuits of the Kreisau Circle and laymen such as July plotters Klaus von Stauffenberg, Jakob Kaiser and Bernhard Letterhaus, whose faith inspired resistance. Elsewhere, vigorous resistance from bishops such as Johannes de Jong and Jules-Géraud Saliège, papal diplomats such as Angelo Rotta, and nuns such as Margit Slachta, can be contrasted with the apathy of others and the outright collaboration of Catholic politicians such as Slovakia's Msgr Jozef Tiso and fanatical Croat nationalists. From within the Vatican, Msgr Hugh O'Flaherty coordinated the rescue of thousands of Allied POWs, and civilians, including Jews. We live in an era of the ultimate conflict with Christianity. It is part of the mission of the SS to give the German people in the next half century the non-Christian ideological foundations on which to lead and shape their lives. This task does not consist solely in overcoming an ideological opponent but must be accompanied at every step by a positive impetus: in this case that means the reconstruction of the German heritage in the widest and most comprehensive sense. With the pressure to deny and repress normal human instincts that are an integral part of who we are, and majorly contribute to our mental emotional health. Freedom to express oneself sexually and emotionally keeps us happy and healthy. No one should hate themselves for their sexuality. Sexuality is such a raw expression of ourselves and the evolutionary process we came from. Coming out of Christianity, meeting a guy I feel strongly for now and having a sexual relationship has really set me free from a lot of fear, guilt and emotional turmoil I suffered as a Christian. I now feel that the whole religious ideal of directing all our love and passion towards "god" and loving him above all else, is a manipulation of our evolutionary desire for a mate. It is taking something integral away from us and forcing us to direct all that sexual and emotional desire for a partner to an invisible deity. Loving a real person and expressing this sexually feels like what I was made for, and according to evolution, it is. So now I resent the fact I deprived myself of something so beautiful for so long.

Nero Caesar ruled from 54AD to 68AD. The Western Roman Empire fell in 476AD, over 400 years later. The Eastern Roman Empire (still technically the Roman Empire) fell in 1204, was reestablished in 1261, and fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1453, which is almost 1400 years after the reign of Nero.

***** Well yes, you are correct I'm sure, but, what of the women and men who are "heterosexual" and cannot produce babies due to biological reasons of infertility? What of them? They cannot multiply by themselves and what if they want a baby? Adoption isn't a bad thing it's actually good. As I was saying my own father grew up in a foster home and it was awful he was blessed to be adopted. And even people can have their own babies and adopt. It happens. Adoption is a thing.

Christianity also helped contribute to Rome's fall due to its lack of tolerance to the indigenous faith.
@cartoonfan918511 жыл бұрын
Because the roman emperors totally didn't make practicing Christianity punishable by death. You're right; they were the tolerant ones and the Christians were ALL bigots who should have been killed for their religious beliefs in a day where pretty much everyone had an us vs them attitude regarding religion and ethnicity.
@tangerinefarmer11 жыл бұрын
Cartoon Fan Actually Nero terribly persecuted the Christians, but, he mostly did it as a distraction from his own horrific policies. Christianity was a target because it was the only faith that refused to bow down to the emperor. Since Rome was polytheistic it was tolerant of other religions. However, when Constantine made Christianity the state religion the monotheistic faith claimed it was the only way and forced other religions out of existence. This caused great internal strife during a time of grave external turbulence, thus Rome fell.

I actually feel bad for Joseph. Beating himself up with religion all the time, saying he should go to hell and deserves death for his sins. That's a lot of self hatred. And i can speak to that because I've been through it and still have moments where I hate myself for who i like. It happens and it sucks. I think MrRepzion's(your) name is Daniel, sorry if I'm wrong, but i really admire the way you went about responding to Joseph. The part about it being totally fine to be gay and that you didn't mean any harm by calling him gay will help him a little bit if he starts to come to terms with himself in a sense. Thank you for that lovely wording of that part, if I had heard it a few years ago it would've meant a ton.

MrRepzion, I inadvertently encountered you videos about a weeks ago and you certainly have much on your mind. Far more that I did when I was your age. However, you are still young and I'm sure you would agree that there is much you have yet to learn. In this, and in your many comments and criticisms against religion and religious people, consider these thoughts from humanistic psychologist E. Fromm (this would apply to the amazing atheist as well) _"Without a map of our natural and social world-a picture of the world and of one's place in it that is structured and has inner cohesion-human beings would be confused and unable to act purposefully and consistently, for there would be no way of orienting oneself, of finding a fixed point that permits one to organize all the impressions that impinge upon each individual. Our world makes sense to us, and we feel certain about our ideas, through the consensus with those around us. Even if the map is WRONG, it fulfills its psychological function. But the map has never been entirely wrong-nor has it ever been entirely right. It has always been enough of an approximation to the explanation of phenomena to serve the purpose of living"_ Needles to say Mr. Martelli and many like him, are using religion to fulfill a psychological function. I can only hope the above quote would provide you with the consolation in knowing that we, as humans, are doing our best to make sense of this often crazy world we live in and far too many people have lost their way in the process. Mr. Martelli is just one of many. While I do believe your heart is often in the right place, I'm sure you can go a step further by showing greater respect to him, those who disagree with you, and those you criticize. You and I may know better regarding the many ways religion misguides so many people but there is no point in arguing or insulting them about it even in jest since it only exacerbates the issue. Instead, and if we really know better, we need to find better ways to communicate with them in hopes they will see _for themselves_ the extend of their misguided ways. I'm sure you struggled admitting to others you've been wrong about something and it's not easy. Likewise, we ought not expect too much from Mr. Martelli since I believe he is struggling _as we all are_ in trying to make sense of our very existence. His belief in the Bible, as erroneous as it may be to you and I, is all that he has. You and I should be thankful we know better and all we can do is try helping those who lost their way with the attention and care they deserve. G

One thing i would like to point out is that a lot of Christians see science as a threat to their religion and God, but that does not make any sense because scientists are basically the ones who are amazed and astounded by the universe and all that exists. They want to learn more about the universe and if there is a conscious creator that did make the universe, i'm would guess his favorite people would be scientists since they are the ones that appreciate the creator's work. Scientists are basically fans of the Creator(if one exists).

Agreed. Or rather, reasonable people that are christians, just as there are reasonable people who are atheists or follow other religions.

There is a large difference between a healthy religion and an unhealthy religion. Since a lot of religions have at least a few loopholes such as no homosexuals, no abortion, etc; I choose not to add religion to my life and just be myself. But I agree, not all Christians are like this, I have family and friends that are both gay and religious.
@JordanLovesLoL10 жыл бұрын
If you have a religion follow it, If you don't believe parts of your religion then you're probably not religious, there's other religions that do accept homosexuality perhaps one of them would be best. Just to clarify I'm gay and I don't follow any religion etc, but I have nothing against people who do.

I am a Christian myself, but I don't use my religion to hurt and judge others because I MYSELF could be doing those things, ya know?? I respect people who are gay, who drink, etc. I may not do those things(nor do I want to), nor do I like what they may do, but I don't(nor will I ever) use my religion as a judgement weapon because it's not my job to judge. The Bible says that I must not judge others, or I myself will be judged.

I do honestly feel bad for the man you were responding to. If he is reading this then I want him to know that he is not a 'sinner'. That whether he is straight, bisexual or gay he does not deserve eternal punishment. He does not deserve 'hell'. He does not deserve any punishment in reality either. (Switching to 'you' rather than 'he' now) Your sexuality is fine whatever it is, no matter what the bible says. If someone or something is saying that you are hell bound or disgusting or sick then you need to stop listening to them or in this case reading it (unless you are on a killing spree then you are disgusting). The only thing that you're doing which is abhorrent is dismissing other people for no other reason than their sexuality. That is wrong. But please, from the center of my hypothalamus, (the part of my brain that controls emotion) don't hate yourself.
