At 0:45 the little guy is sometime considered a toy, but a Daruma has a design that is rich in symbolism and is regarded more as a talisman of good luck to the Japanese. Daruma dolls are seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck, making them a popular gift of encouragement. When purchased, the figure's eyes are both blank white. The owner selects a goal or wish and paints in the left eye of the figure's two eyes with Chinese or Japanese ink. Once the goal is achieved, the right eye is filled in. Oh how I wished he had picked him up. Thanks for taking us with you.

It amazes me how much stock in the Goodwill stores is chipped, broken, or cracked. Who would buy it in that state? I volunteer in a Hospice fundraising shop in New Zealand, and we have a standard policy that nothing in unsaleable condition is placed in the shop. This ensures customers have confidence in the quality of their purchases and, of course, it allows prices to reflect that. Always enjoy your videos. Take care
@GuyWithTheDogs3 ай бұрын
Here's a wild guess: Some people do buy the chipped items.

The thrift stores figure that if everything was donated, therefore free to them, they may as well put it on the shelf and see if anyone wants it at a low price. Many do get purchased, some people love to rescue vintage items, even in damaged condition.

At 8:55 you went by the diamond-shaped sugar & creamer for the 2nd time. I know you're not a fan of clear glass, but I do know those are older vintage. My Mom had a set like that in the early 1950s when I was a little kid. I think they are probably older than that. No idea what they would go for, but I've always liked them. :)
@mamaG43 ай бұрын
That pattern was made for many years in many colors and is very common. I would have to look it up to be sure but I think the pattern is called Sandwich and was made by Indiana Glass and Anchor Hocking. Certain pieces may be more valuable than others but the sugar and creamer probably aren’t worth much. Hope that helps.

Not a croquet ball. The stripes on croquet balls are different and they are made of wood or newer ones of a composite. CLL was right, it was a modern reproduction of a Victorian carpet ball. The originals are very heavy.
