"I HATE MY DAD" "Then drama practice got really akward"

I really related to Yumi's story. My dad left me and my mom's life then only tried coming back when I was older and while I was still angry at him then he died before I forgave him and gave him a chance. By the time I learned that he cared and was proud of me, it was too late. I've had to live with that regret.
@HidinginPrivate2 жыл бұрын
Wow. When you said you related I never imagined it would hit that close to home, even with the details like so. Losing a parent is always tragic, even a distant one, even one you may not have been on good terms with. Hope you're doing alright now

@@HidinginPrivate thank you. I have come to terms with it and have visited his grave since. I really liked Yumi's social link from beginning to the end. People tend to say its not all that good as a social link cause your not interacting with her. It's just "She talks, and you listen" like some how social links mean you literally have to Socialize with them. But when it comes to situations like hers, sometimes it's a millions times better just to listen and be there for someone.

Although I find Ayane’s struggle more relatable, Yumi’s link hit me much harder emotionally. I don’t think her father deserved forgiveness, but seeing her give him the peace of mind he desired in the end made me respect her so damn much. I haven’t done this s link in a while so it’s definitely gonna be the one i pick for my next playthrough.
@HidinginPrivate2 жыл бұрын
I agree with basically all of that. I like Ayane more, Yumi's was more emotional generally. I didn't think the forgiveness was deserved, but her willingness to be mature and offer that grace is respectable.

I actually kind of feel what Yumi goes through. My dad didn't abandon us, but simply indulged himself in alcohol. It was horrible living with him, watching him succumb to his vices, tear my family apart and make all of our lives miserable. By the time we left I despised him, and didn't want to see him again. The few times I did visit him he seemed to genuinely miss and care about me, he wanted me to keep seeing him but I just couldn't bring myself to. During my senior year of high school he got sick and died in a hospital, I saw his body inflated with chemicals holding him together, he was hardly able to stay conscious. That day way horrible, returning to his room where he layed cold and lifeless, I never wanted him to pass away and in the back of my head I knew I played a part in it. But not long before he died he wanted to let me know he loved me even if I didn't believe it, but how could he? I was so quiet, so reclusive, a failure who never showed him that same love, and now took his life away. It's apalling that I can still live with myself knowing this, and unlike Yumi I'm at a loss as to what to do now, stuck in stagnation.
@RogerTears8 ай бұрын
I'm really sorry for you i hope you're doing good now. I liked yumi cuz i could relate to her not because my dad left me or didn't care about me, but he died when i was too young i was twelve when he died which left me a feeling of abandonment like her and this feeling really affects the way you see relationships of any kind you don't want to feel that feeling of being abandoned again so when someone start getting to intimate/close to you you push the person back and raise up your walls like yumi does with the MC yelling at him and then apologizing. I can think the times that i did that myself irl and i felt guilty and blame myself to do that to the other person and i end up apologizing but its juat a matter of time for me to do that again the best way to deal with this is going to the psychologist

once again a good analysis! Stories about actors are often feeling a bit "meta". Everyone is playing roles, fitting into archetypes. and the actor's talent consists of changing their role to suit the situation. A rare situation where a lack of personal connection to one's character is actually advantageous. As is seen when Yumi's later character growth goes alongside her diminishing commitment to her role in the drama club.
@0axis7712 жыл бұрын
Yumi honestly became my favorite girl in Persona 4. It's weird because I normally feel like I connect better with characters from the main party as a love interest, who are in the story itself over the others. But none of the others really got me interested. But Yumi made me adore her and want to be there with her. Hence why she's my best girl in Persona 4. And I can understand wanting to just not be yourself and be this other fantasy person that you don't have to be. I related to her so much.

I like going through a video like this. Because I only really went through Yumi's route once (and I think only on the original P4). Mostly since I just have good nostalgia for school bands so I tend to just head that way each time I've replayed P4: Golden. Yumi's arc is good. There's some great layers to it and those moments of immaturity keep her feeling believable. Since it's understandable why she's upset and it also makes sense why turning her down at the end of her social link hits so hard.

I know this whole series is 2 years old, but I've been watching it for days now and I've really enjoyed it. This Social Link always resonated with me, but especially now. My own terrible bio-dad passed just a few months ago as of writing this. Unlike Yumi, I never really forgave him, and couldn't find it in me to cry when he passed, but I can empathize with her nonetheless. It's unfair for children to be expected to love and be loyal to their parents even if those aprents have abandoned or neglected them. That we're supposed to forgive and move on just because they happened to contribute 50% of your DNA. In my case, my mom's bio dad had walked out on her family when she was 14, so when my dad became negligent and cruel, she made sure to tell my brother and I that no matter what anyone else in the family said, we did not owe him forgiveness or love. Dying doesn't absolve all the bad a person did in life. It's the choice of the people they hurt whether or not to forgive them - but it's never owed.

Yumi herself is fine, but her Social Link rubs me the wrong way a bit. I always got the feeling that she was sort of railroaded into forgiving her father. Especially the way it starts with her mother lying to her to make her see him. That’s pretty blatantly putting his wishes before Yumi’s very reasonable desire to avoid the father who abandoned her for most of her life but still wants the loving daughter treatment, and her parents are basically rewarded for that when Yumi’s mother starts suffering taking care of him, and Yumi doesn’t really have much choice but to start taking care of him herself. You as the player are even encouraged to push her towards that later on in the link, since you get more points for calling him a “kind father”, which is kinda…. Ehh, for a dude that peaced out from his family for a decade. I wish the player could’ve actually validated her initial feelings, because it is a bullshit situation. Idk, it feels like it’s very clear where the game stood on the matter and didn’t really leave much room for Yumi to ultimately feel anything other than forgiveness and do anything other than be the good, faithful daughter to a father that highkey didn’t deserve it

I didnt hate her at all... until the very last phrases of her Rank 10, I understand how she feels, but holy crap that felt like the worst emotional manipulation one could conceive, here I am trying to be here for you in the worst day of your life and she (feeks like) she tried to guilt trip me into becoming her boyfriend? Worst than that is that you dont get to talk to her after that until you say your goodbyes, in which she passive-agressively gives me crap for "abandoning her at her worst moment". It really didnt feel like an "unbreakable bond" was formed at all, Yu couldnt be there for her during her griveing period nor try to console her, this doesnt feel at all like a relationship in which we love each other, romantically or not.

I've always had mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, I absolutely understand her pain and her feelings of betrayal (I don't think I would have let the dad back in if I were in her place). But as an actor, it always rankled that her social link necessitated her giving up acting🤣🤣
@HidinginPrivate2 жыл бұрын
I'm also very mixes on her forgiveness. I feel I probably wouldn't have, but at the same time grace is a large part of forgiveness, sometimes it's given, not deserved and the finality and closure of being apart of his passing might help them move on too. The actor thing I really like though. For Yumi, she got into acting and obsessed over her roles to escape from the roles she had in real life. Once she had come to terms with herself, atleast for the time, she had her most important role to finally understand, herself.
