Great video! I didn’t expect for it to resonate with me so much, practically all of your thoughts pertaining to how Christianity has developed parallel my own - thoughts that were especially at the forefront of my mind as I was delving into Orthodoxy while being encouraged to become a catechumen. Wishing you and your channel(s) the best 😊

The arguments in the first part of this vid, from both Lily and this video are kind of frustrating because they are obviously working on different takes of the show, and I don't want to play devil's advocate for Lily, but I do want to try and clarify these arguments by showing how I saw them. Serialization vs Episodic: I do think that it is common for shows to have both serialized and episodic segments thus there is no need to pick between the two, but I don't think that was the point of the original argument. Rather that Steven Universe had some really major story elements that were interrupted by those episodic segments. For example, the cluster was a massive threat to earth, but the story took a lot longer to actually handle that threat because there were a lot of episodes in between that weren't relevant to that threat. Because of how those episodes were ordered, the cluster felt like far less of a threat then it actually was. Those episodes were relevant to the characters, but I believe the show would have been stronger if the direction had been more concise, and not episodic during that arc. I don't like Lily's solution of the cluster being handled first however, as those character focused episodes should have come before the cluster was handled obviously, but reworking that segment so that those character focused episodes happen before, and the plot shifts into handling the cluster properly would have made that arc stronger. Maybe it would be interesting if Peridot had the knowledge of the cluster, but not of it's purpose of destroying the earth, and she goes through a whole character arc learning to appreciate her life on earth, just for her to discover the cluster's true purpose. That way the cluster becomes not only a threat to the earth, but a specific threat to Peridot's new life, driving her and the other crystal gems to really gear up to fight the cluster in an intense way. This accomplishes both the fulfilling character arc of Peridot's new life on earth with the crystal gems, and makes the imminent destruction of the earth far more pressing of an issue. I think that Steven Universe tried to be both a fun character focused show while also being a story about intergalactic war, and I believe that the characters took the forefront in the story. This isn't an incorrect choice, but the way the show handled it was to weaken the intergalactic war portion of that story to make room for more character focused elements, which would be fine if the intergalactic war wasn't at the scale that it was. If the show wanted to include an arc where the enemy committed horrible crimes against their own people to make a massive weapon to destroy the earth, maybe the focus of the show should have been on that instead of the characters. Or just make the Diamonds slightly less horrible, honestly I'd be happy with the diamonds aren't genocidal and just a background threat for most of the show. And I also think this is where Lily is arguing from, the intergalactic war is objectively the most important arc in the story because the villains are willing to go to such extreme lengths in their grief that they would be willing to commit atrocities, and as such it is the duty of the main cast to prevent that. When viewed under that lens, the character arcs of the main cast are forced to compete with genocide and the destruction of the earth, and I don't believe the show balanced those two focuses effectively. I think Steven Universe would be fine if the villains weren't as much of a threat as they were shown to be. Steven Universe deserved to be a fun and engaging story of the people living on earth alongside the crystal gems after the events caused by Pink Diamond, and the best parts of the show are when it gets to focus on those elements. But there is no point where I can forget the cluster being an amalgam of a massive number of dead gems forced together into a hyper weapon capable of destroying the earth. With that as a plot point, I feel like the later redemption of the diamonds is simply abhorrent, and there's no argument I feel like is good enough to allow them their somewhat happy ending. Does this make the show bad? I think so, but not terrible. Messy for sure, and there are many segments that really did make me frustrated, but there were some really strong character moments that made me like the show still. It's not my favorite, and definitely deserving of some criticism, but it's got something special.

I agree with Lily in the fact that I could not have cared less about 99% of the townie episodes. And that's because most of the townies are BORING. Compare to Adventure Time where it was really, really rare for me to want to skip a side character focused episode even if it was filler because I enjoyed watching them. I do not agree at ALL about the Serialization vs. Episodic take though.

Some points: 2) Naoki and Saki are actually arguing about Saki stealing Naoki's cream puffs, which Naoki tells you about late in his social link. 11) Debatable. The perspective is changed in the TV World to the front of the store rather than down the street 12) Also debatable. They both have red? Other than that they look nothing alike. As an aside: why is Yosuke wind-based when his final persona has the sun for a hat?

Before the election, I originally commented here saying that MAGA was planning an ethnic cleansing. I eventually deleted it because I thought I might be exaggerating, and I didn't want to fearmonger. I thought that at worst, we'd see a repeat of the Japanese internment camps, especially after Colombians were flown out of the country. Just came here now that immigrants are going to be sent to Guantanamo Bay. The worst case scenario I feared has become a reality. God help us. Dehumanization, "they're poisoning the *blood* of our country," ending birthright citizenship, rounding them up into "migrant camps," Trump pardoning actual Neo-Nazis, Musk doing the Sieg Heil. How much more obvious could it be what this really is at this point? God help us.

Hi, I know you won't probably read this (since this is a year after it uploaded) and I really liked your take and how you handled your views well. For the lapis part, you brought up some really good points, but I feel like you put a lot of emphasis on how her toxicity in response of Jasper was completely Jasper's fault, which I felt was leaning more victim-blamey. I do agree they were both toxic towards each other, but it felt more like you saw Lapis hurting Jasper as fine since Jasper initiated the fusion, which I disagree with. But it was an interesting take, and you did bring up a lot of good points. Then again, I may be bias because Jasper is my favourite character, with her being one of the only gems that isn't 'redeemed' (as in doesn't join the crystal gems). I think it's an interesting take that, even if you offer support, people that don't want to change, won't change. In addition, with Jasper not changing throughout the series, it shows the opposite side a system like this can produce, people that have been so defined by their 'upbringing' that they can't accept change even if it's better and kinder to them overall. She seems to have long since accepted her role in the society and personalized the loss of pink diamond, evident to her hatred for Steven before future. I guess what I'm saying is that I view Jasper as a victim of circumstance, which makes her such a compelling villain to me because of her take. She would constantly belittle those she thought were weaker, yet respected those stronger than her in what she considered a fair fight, which could be seen that she doesn't hold herself in high regard and feels insulting those weaker than her restates her place in the society. She came from the Beta Kindergarten, the one regarded as flawed that created flawed gems, and despite coming out perfect, she might feel like she'll always be a product of where she was made. Like how she treated Amethyst, for example. Amethyst came from the better kindergarten, yet came out 'inferior' to her, and she constantly reminds her of it. Jasper's insults seem more personal towards her than towards anyone else, even Garnet. Her pride gets to the point that she can't bear to lose in a fight, because she's the perfect quartz. She has to win. Don't get me wrong, Jasper is definitely a bully. She hurts others, she upholds the teachings of Homeworld, she's the perfect soldier molded by her society. She hurt the cast, specifically Lapis and Amethyst, and she needs more than a song and a helping hand to change because those things had no place on Homeworld. She's so loyal to the Diamonds, to her original diamond, and her idea of them that she can't accept Steven as being a diamond until he proves it to her. And when he does, she jumps right back into programming. He becomes the person to give her purpose, something the the end of era 2 took from her. When Steven tells her that he doesn't want her to follow him, she was heartbroken, being cast aside by her new 'diamond' and thrown back into her purposeless existence. Which makes her a more interesting villain than the diamonds to me, it shows the other side this society can cause, showing the effect this loss can have on those like them, that need a different way of support that isn't a school because the others can't understand why someone would want or need the (very despicable) society that's been dismantled. They aren't equipped to properly integrate these kinds of people, and by the end of future, it shows she still hasn't moved on with the very fact she bid farewell to her diamond, not Steven. And the biggest question being, do they deserve that support? And playing off your mention of how different gems react depending on their diamond, I think it shows how much Jasper was changed by the system by being the only one of pink diamond's gems (that we see) that isn't playful, laidback or filled with life. It begs the question of how different would she have turned out if Pink hadn't been shattered, if Rose didn't stay permanently. Just how much of Jasper was taken from her to become a no-nonsense, Homeworld ideal spitting, bully that differs so much from her sister gems at the Zoo? Obviously not everyone will share this view, but this is my take away from Jasper's character. Again, great video, thanks for pointing out the flaws in Lily's arguments in a civilized matter.

Well, shit, now I'll have to reeducate the algorithm... I mean, I should really have known better, but I thought that if someone calls out E;R - they would have... some equally objective proof. It's always nice to see different perspectives. But having not just 0 idea about how a body works, but also for the umpteenth time saying "defect equals norm" is just the definition of gaslight. Go ahead, enter manufacturing or service industry. Make a f*ck-up. A defective product or a bad service. Then declare to the customer and to your boss that they are stupid and your way of production or service is actually as good and as equal as any other. That rules do not exist, because if you exist and your way of doing things exist - then that means that the same applies to everyone. Then go to court about your lack of severance pay... and hopefully get a restraining order.
@HidinginPrivate4 күн бұрын
Nothing in this video is arguing 'defect equals norm'. You are making a number of unsubstantiated and inaccurate comparisons with these analogies. Like your posturing here doesn't engage with anything I actually said in the video. I'm willing to clarify or explain, but your comment sounds like jerking yourself off while not engaging with anything being said. E;R gets virtually everything incorrect in his depiction of Sex and Gender from a scientific perspective. Being left handed isn't a defect. People more freely expressing themselves to be happy isn't a f*ck up. Just a bunch of unsubstantiated assumptions at play here.

OK I genuinely dislike how much people attack Christianity pointing at all its flaws without seeing the good it does even day to day I'm agnostic and even i can see the good moral principles it teaches the charity done by believers the fact that it was the teachings of Christianity that led to the ending of the global slave trade. There's religions out there that are so so much worse religions that promote child marriage ones that essentially argue that existence itself is evil. I don't know i guess i'm just tired of people attacking something that has a pretty net positive effect on the world when they're genuinely evil religions out there. I also find the angels and god are evil and demons and the devil troupe annoying and overdone.

Stating historical facts and patterns of powerful institutions isn't attacking Christianity itself. I give credence, as does the game, to genuine believers and people who do good even inside negative structures, so this comment also partially reads like you didn't watch the video. Based on the comment I also think you just have swallowed a lot of propaganda because Christianity did NOT end the slave trade. Look at what critical scholars or those not signing faith statements have to say about literally any period of time where Christianity was in power. Like if you're being honest, I don't think you can create more of a directly false statement than 'Christianity ended the slave trade'. That's a joke statement only made by apologists.

@@HidinginPrivate the main abolitionists were Christians making arguments from the bibles teachings its not exactly hard to see how the moral principles from the bible led to the ending of slavery just because the catholic church sucks doesn't mean the entire religion is evil. unlike Islam which actively promotes slavery rape and murder.
