Thought I would post about a few of the comments on this video. 1. The instrument is AC550 BHG made in France by Courtois! 2. The method in this video is called the "pivot system." Although it is the way many established players approach the different ranges of their instrument..it is not the only way...as with any idea related to improving as a trombone player, I would suggest that you try this method and if it doesn`t work for you, try another! Often times, there is more than one path:-)

Nice synopsis. It's probably worth mentioning that while Mr. Pollard describes blowing the airstream more downward for the high range, this only applies for downstream players. Some people (about 10%) do the opposite: blow up, toward their nose, for the high range.

Your on the right path, I was at a reliable Db at the end of eight grade, I'm a freshman in high school now and not even a year later it's become a reliable triple G (what would be at the end of a 3 octave G major scale), however, since not really any pieces use that note very often, I'm beginning to work on pedals, 12c I'm hitting pedal F.

Definitely a Bass Trombone and customized either with or by Hagmann valves. The "third trigger" is actually a rest bar. I use one myself, but it's one my Rath which supports the back of the hand.

Thanks very much! I actually recently found an article on wilktone about this subject.Apparently Farkas wrote something after he published "The Art of Brass Playing" that talked about more discoveries he had made, and how some of the information in that book (which is where I read about my previous thoughts) was incorrect.

Rochut Melodious Etude Book 1. Great tool. You can play them as written, down a octave, up an octave, in different keys, etc. Although most of the etudes aren't too difficult, all professional trombonists play around with these. Very useful.

I was taught that what is bad is changing mouthpiece placement while you play. I find it useful and beneficial to change the direction of air flow in order to maximize flexibility, and richness of tone, as I move through the range. These moves do not constitute changing the embouchure; rather they are part of getting the most out of the emboucher. Air direction can affect air speed and distance between lips, all of which can prove beneficial, for me at least.

Andy Peacock It is a bass trombone, a tenor trombone has no loops, and only 1 tuning slide. The bass trombone has 2. The contrabass trombone has 3-4. I've played all of them, but since I'm only 14 I don't have the lip strength to play as low as in this video

Any tips on how to improve lower range without the use of extra valves? I'm looking to be able to play in the key of low B flat.
@dougmacaulay623311 жыл бұрын
He is not moving the mouthpiece around. It stays in contact with the lips without shifting at all. What changes is the direction of the flow of air. This is primarily accomplished by moving the lips inside the mouthpiece to direct the air one way or another. I would like for Denson to discuss what role jaw movement plays, if any, in moving through the range.

I love the high notes, on my tiny little tenor trombone I'm starting to try to play above high D, it's hard, but I'll get there, only been playing 8 months. My pedal notes need some help though, I can only get to a G on pedals, but I'm stunningly sharp on pedal notes. My third position should make pedal Ab, but it's always a G. Can anyone help with that part?
@samshaw14597 жыл бұрын
When I first discovered pedals, G was in first for me. for me it required a very large embrouchure change. I had to really tighten the corners, almost like a smile. And practice them all the time, and the pedals will slowly become more in tune.

I thought shifting your embochure to point the airstream down that far was a bad thing and that you were supposed to play high with air still going straight down the horn? Can someone clarify? :l
@bontrom86 жыл бұрын
Don Newman imagine bouncing a ball down a long hallway. a low note is like throwing it down the hall without touching the floor or ceiling. a high note "bounces" the air off the floor and ceiling (for example 7 times for a high Bb) resulting in more oscilations and a higher frequency. so just imagine throwing the ball downward at the floor to try to bounce it an exact number of times before it reaches the end. silly analogy but hope it helps.
@Mlebrun9811 жыл бұрын
Ist probably just two triggers. Bass has two triggers but three tuning slides and tenor has one trigger but two tuning slides.

start with a pedal Bb, then gliss downward until the note fails to speak. keep a deep open airstream like fogging a mirror. there is a trick to pedal notes lower than G so don't feel bad. just keep practicing slow smears and lots of warm air. throw in some octave up notes to give your embochure context. happy pedaling!
