This is the final part of my three day solo gold mining trip. You'll see the full cleanup and how much gold I wound up with!
The North Saskatchewan River is full of fine gold, but this spot had even finer gold on average than I'm used to seeing. The finer the gold, the more a gram of it looks like in the pan, which can be deceiving...
I had a great time filming this experience, and I hope you all enjoy watching it!

Hey man! First of all: love your vids! Keep'em coming! And my 2 cents from Hungary below. This is based on my own expericence on the Danube river here in Hungary plus the Rhein in Germany. Both have super fine gold. On the Danube it's usually -50, on the Rhein particle size is a bit bigger: lots of -20 to -50. I run a 12-inch-wide highbanker with a 75cm long top feeder (Hopper), with 60cm backed moss in it running to the top of it, plus a 1.4m bottom section, also with backed moss all the way. I can tell you, this thing catches everything! I use a 3700 gph electric pump, so my flow is probably a bit less than yours but still, it works fine, even on the clay we have here (lots of it, unfortunately). Shovel-wise I have similar rates to yours. Also, with less flow I go for a bit more angle. Even at 15° it caught everything (did that once by mistake, hehe :D). I usually run my setup at 11-12°. On top of the backed moss I use very fine 4mmx8mm expanded mesh. Gold is not big here, so I'm not risking losing any nuggets. So, based on the above, and because you're also after small gold just like I am, I just wanted to tell you that if I were you, I'd probably switch from the splitter to a longer setup. Especially that now you have a big badass boat and you're not limited by space anymore (SeaDoo). Don't worry about the more aggressive water flow, I'm pretty sure the moss can/will handle it. It's probably also a good idea to go backed moss all the way. If you go for more water, just set your angle a bit less steep. Plus you could finally get rid of that Le Trap... Oh and if you wanna get real crazy, you could try a straight hopper, put backed moss into it all the way to the top. Then put fine (4x8mm or a bit bigger) expanded mesh on the moss, also all the way to the top and use a clay claw. That's what I've been using and it works wonders. Anyways, like I said before: love your vids! Please do keep them coming! :) Cheers, Chris PS: let me know if this got you interested, I'm happy to send you pics of my setup if it did.

Hey man, great work. Maybe you could cut together a short vid for us showing you doing a test pan. Also, I've done some painstaking fractional classification of NSR gold, and overall found that 41% of the mass of gold is -70, and 28% is -50 to -70. Challenging to catch in bulk!

Excellent video good tutorial on prospecting and zeroing in on streaks . I would do similar in my day and do perpendicular to the river shallow shovel wide trenches where allowed by the ground . To bad you fell a little short of your 1/4oz about .80grams /yard at 8 yards . Did you measure the angle of the gravel before it leveled off with the rich streak ? It too makes sense that the gold would only go up that angle just so far.
@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Bart! I didn't measure the angle. I do find it interesting that when I first got the the gravel bar, it all kind of just looks like gravel... but then after enough pans, you start to recognize subtle differences and see the direction gold tents to take as it spreads across the bar. I still have lots to learn, and I'll share it as I go!

What are your thoughts on the moss in your main sluice? Is the increase in cons you would get with moss acceptable for the improved capture versus Dream Mat?
@UtmostOutdoors

I'm always hesitant to post a hard and final thought on something until I've had a little more time with it, but given that my boat can handle the concentrates, I'll take the extra gold captured for now. I'm going to do some more testing on rough top conveyor belting next year.

I'm a little curious, but unfortunately I don't know. I don't even have a screen that fine. My 50 mesh already almost takes way longer to screen that I think it's worth. I usually only screen to 30 mesh, as any finer doesn't seem to help recovery much.

@UtmostOutdoors
@UtmostOutdoors Жыл бұрын
If you're shoveling in alberta you'll want a flare with some lower energy flow after the main box. But you need to be shoveling a good color count for those 2000 shovels to add up. I aim to not shovel anything less than 100 colors of gold per shovel. If you're not on good ground, time may be better spent with a pan just prospecting for richer ground.
