High Days and Holidays - Barnstaple Fair

In this short oral history film made for the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, Barnstaple Town Council's Senior Beadle, George Lovering talks about the history of Barnstaple Fair. He tells us about his role in the proclamation of the fair and shares his earliest memories of the showmen, cheapjacks and the 'back to front' horse.

certainly hope they are not finishing, although they are here next week in the Park the site they commonly take is now a building site. I knew when that happens we may have changes. I look forward to hearing about Septembers plans, I usually record the Carnival and Fair on my youtube channel. I am also looking for footage from 80/90s arcades for historic reasons. Very interesting what you done here.
