Good to know there are decent closed-backs out there. I probably won't be spending this much on a headphone any time soon, but I'm glad they're out there. I have the ZMF Bokeh, which costs half the amount and is probably more in line with my preference for a less bright sound signature. I'd still consider these though. And I know it's popular to put down closed backs, but some of us don't live in quiet environments where open backs are practical, and some of us don't like IEMs either (I find them uncomfortable and can rarely get a decent fit). That leaves closed backs as the best option for passive isolation.
@soulfulfool8 ай бұрын
me also dislike IEM's they are not healthy for ears, personally own ZMF VC so either of those could not replace it just because I like Zach tuning its my thing, Caldera closed is the only closed planar that I could trust blindly

Yes. As in: it is probably more virtuous to desire neither and get an equally or even better sounding and constructed headphone around the 300 ~ 500 price point because in this range you pay A LOT of premium on materials, detailing, packaging and most of all: bs marketing claims by a company simply positioning them as being 'top of the line' with a corresponding price. Also in this particular case I would steer clear of either one: Soundstage seems to be lacking on both, according to this review. I wouldn't ever want to settle for a compromise on sound stage. Let alone for $2000. And c'mon, glued ear cups for that price?

If you have an E3, do yourself a favor and pair it with a decent amp and a toner like the Schiit Loki (I'm using the Loki Mini). That will give you plenty of bass or just control in general. The E3's work REALLY well with EQ.

take a look at schiit's stuff. I use bifrost and lyr now, but also have an asgard that I bought bundled with a different set of DCA headphones. I still use the asgard with my E3's sometimes, and it's still good. 279 no DAC, 379 ES9028 DAC card or 479 with schiit's multibit DAC card. Could also build a stack (midgard, modi, loki mini+) with some of their individual options - including eq - and still be under $500 by $1 before tax and shipping

@@twaters3282 stupid question, but I’m from the EU: if you see online US-prices, f.e. 199$ for the HD6XX, does that mean you still pay additional taxes, so in the end it’s like 220$ or something? That would explain a lot of the price differences to me 😂

I tried them both. Much preferred the E3. A much better headphone. I had the Liric1 and the cups were so small it was so annoying to have the pads and the inner portion of them constantly touching my ears. Every reviewer: for a closed-back the soundstage of the E3 is great. It is one of the most open-sounding closed-backs out there. This headphones serve for different segment ans was developed for different purposes. Lyric 2 is portable headphones for traveling. It’s easy to drive with dap like ibasso dx320, sp2000/3000, cayin n8. Superior passive noise isolation(I easy use it during flights). Light and comfortable for long term use. Liric 2 has warmer sound signature with distance from music stage. It created for relaxed listening outdoors. DCA E3 are headphones for home using. Low sensitivity makes it impossible to use it with daps with good dynamic. It’s heavier. Passive noice isolation even worse than with lcd xc. But it sounds more neutral wit a lot of details for home listening. Personally I never use Liric 2 at home because of Susvara but after one week of testing I refused e3 for same reason for home listening and there are no sense for outdoors. But when I’m in a hotel I never use liric2. In silent room I need portable easy to drive Susvara daughter - HE1000SE. With warm tube amp, dekoni leather pads and internal foam in cups it has reduces treble and enhanced bass without eq. With these three changes it was turned in superior sounding headphones. Josh try these three options together with He1000se and you will bless it😊

Completely different in concept and execution. Not only are you attempting to compare planar to dynamic, which have differing characteristics on that fact alone, but the goals of the headphones in question are very different as well. The Sony makes no attempt to be neutral and instead aims for a more pleasing tuning across genres regardless of correctness, but you have to appreciate their colored tuning to enjoy them. Both the Liric and E3 prioritize correctness from a technical standpoint with a bit of character to keep things interesting. All of them are great but it really comes down to personal preference.
