love to see what the calibration looks like for the cinema? No way there is no reverb and other issues. You can even hear the echo as you walk around. Nice setup but only two Atmos speakers :( and rear surrounds in ceiling. A lot of rookie mistakes and hard compromises.
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy6 ай бұрын
Those are not the rear surrounds. The rear surrounds are SVS Ultra bookshelves behind the sound panels. There are 6 Atmos height speakers, not sure where you got two from. The grills are painted to match the ceiling. It's a 7.2.6 configuration. The reverb goes away in the theater area, as all the wall panels are sound panels.

Cool looking basement but the room is just to big and open. I love SVS but your client should have went with some JBL Cinema speakers, Meyer Sound, or some JTR’s at the very least. Also the back surround placement is horrible. Those 2 PB 16 Ultras will not have enough output for that space , he needs 4 or more 18 inch or 21 inch subs for that huge space .

Very beautiful, details, materials. But the layout - I don't understand why someone would combine the theater with the other spaces. Regardless of the system performance being able to handle the large open space, mixing very different functions such as a home theater, which wants to have low to no ambient lighting, with gaming (pool) and bar areas that want to be reasonably, if not well, lit. Especially with a projector, which absolutely wants a dark room (regardless of how bright the lamps are and what the manufacturers claim regarding ambient light.) Very strange design decision, given that they have plenty of room to make each space separate from one another and not have to compromise. Open plan layouts, seem cool and interesting and may make sense in some situations, it makes no sense here. As with most situations, when you try to everything at once, you are not going to do any one of them very well. You created a space that was designed for multiple uses at the same time, but the different uses will easily interfere with one another. Someone watching a movie and having to hear others being them playing arcade games or laughing and screaming at the bar while shooting darts. A set of sliding or folding doors would have provided both the functionality needed for the different spaces, while allowing for the open plan. By not putting any separation between the home theater and the gaming area behind it, you're forcing one person or everyone using the space simultaneously to compromise. Everything else about this space is amazing, but the layout really let's it down.

It's unique and perfect.

I don't know if the screen is actually 135" or smaller. It looks like 106"-110". I think that for this space and this viewing distance, an even bigger projection screen should have been included in order to have an even better immersion.

Absolutely gorgeous build. The audio for the home theater was a bit cringey though. Incredible projector. At 6ft, your rear bookshelfs run out of steam at 102db. This falls short of the 105db peaks needed for an atmos reference system. You bookshelfs are certainly further than 6ft from the MLP. Your side surrounds are not within spec for immersive audio. Immersive audio calls for direct radiating speaker construction, not dipole. Your atmos in-ceilings could be in-spec since you did not mention what they are. But in my experience, there's only one or two brands who actually make in-ceilings that adhere to atmos spec. One specific speaker that comes to mind are Kef's THX ultra in-ceilings/in-walls. The L&R likely also don't hit atmos SPL spec of 105db peaks because those towers require 300 watts to play 105db at 6ft. Those Emotiva amps will put 300 watts into two channels simultaneously BUT with no other channels being driven. So, during a movie, they are likely not hitting spec at peak SPLs. The center is pointed at the knees of the people in the front row.... (facepalm). This is causing a huge dip in the frequency response at the crossover between the tweeter and mid-range, causing in-coherence for the people in the front row. Likely, the middle row isn't even getting direct sound from the center, which is muffling 70%-80% of the movie, and the back row is likely getting only room reverberation from the center channel. Lastly, the only part of this system that is in spec for atmos and is only in spec for the people on the front row, are the subwoofers. And only just barely.... Likely averaging 115db peaks. All of that said, I'm not even including the SPL losses you gain after calibrating the room. This is why a good rule of thumb at minimum is to over-spec your system by about 6db. That builds in the losses you get once the room is calibrated. SVS makes an incredible product all around especially with their new speaker line that just came out. But they only become a true reference system when properly integrated into the room. I'm sure this room sounds great properly calibrated and pushed to -10db. But I bet the system is chuffing and ear-fatiguing when turned up to -0db because of the monumental amount of THD and IMD in the speakers and subs at that volume. I know what I've said above will likely sound snobby on my part or make the video creator pissy but you can't beat the laws of physics. You can't beat math. Breath taking buildout of the basement that I'm sure will please the client and be able to entertain any amount of people with no problems. Again, it's BEAUTIFUL. But the audio system is by far the weakest link of the build. I'm not sure exactly which Sony projector that is but likely over half the cost of the entire home theater is sitting in that projector and screen. Last note and I'll be done. Why..... Why did was a white screen spec'd for this concept in a build out with so many materials that reflect light like crazy.... Why was an ALR screen not used? You gave up an enormous amount of contrast ratio even with all of the lights off. With the lights on? Forget about it. It's washed out even in the video above. Ok. I'll be done.
@MacroBlockArt4 ай бұрын
The main problem with the audio is none of this dolby atmos spec propaganda drivel. The main problem is the fact it's in an open plan room and you can hear the narrator's voice bouncing around like a public restroom for the entire video. Any sound system of any type in this setting will sound like someone speaking in a shower.
@MacroBlockArt4 ай бұрын
That said, there are some experimental solutions used in live concert audio for this issue, I've seen one that used strategically placed speakers playing inverse waveforms to de-verb unwanted bounces.
