Thank you very much for watching and encouraging Michelle 💕 I love this era too and I think the outfits of frilly blouses and walking skirts are really wearable (and the ornate dresses with trains and massive feathery hats are to be marvelled at!) 💗🎀

How interesting and fun to see! The dresses in that first magazine were so decadent! 😍 I also loved seeing the women walking around London. It was great seeing how these style looked on ordinary women.

It’s like people in the future looking at Vogue and thinking that’s how we all looked! I was really lucky finding those street photos by an amateur photographer of the time. They make Edwardian fashion look much more approachable! Thank you for watching Katie! 💗🎀

What a wonderful video! The fashion of 1905 is fascinating and I loved how you showed the high fashion from the magazines translating to the street fashion. I found some pictures of my great grandmother from that era, I’ll send them to you ❤

Thank you very much Masha, your great grandmother was certainly wearing a high necked pretty blouse like the ones I’ve shown in my video. Photos of real people in the fashions of an era are always the hardest to find so anymore photos of relatives in vintage or antique fashions would be very welcome! (My own grandmother has featured in a few different videos now!) ❤️

I picked up on the Edwardian lace up shoes, of which you have a copy, taking such a long time to put on. Looking at the fashions of the time it must have taken an absolute age to dress and do your hair and the reason why some ladies needed the help of dressers. A great historical video. The suffragettes were so brave and courageous. Today voting is a human right and more people should do it particularly when you see what these ladies went through to achieve this right. You looked and sounded lovely as usual. Nice cameo from your dogs. I hope they weren't too disturbed by fireworks over the weekend.

It takes an age to manoeuvre ankles into those walking boots! You have to loosen all the laces, then tighten them all up again! Imagine if that came after lacing up a corset, doing up lots of tiny buttons etc! Dressing was an art form. I agree about the suffragettes and, in an era when to have a husband was everything, they must have been under such pressure to conform. Pixie had a terrible time with the fireworks. If you noticed that the sound on my video was patchy it’s because you are either hearing an undertone of hyperventilating dog or I am holding the microphone a little too far away. She just wanted to cling to me poor little thing.

I love the dress you're wearing at the begining of the video, looks beautiful on you! A very interesting and educating video about the fashions of 1905. Such craftmanship on their hats and the beautiful blouses. And even though it's considered to be a very conservative style for the modern world, I think it's very elegantly femnine, accentuating the curves of a woman's body in a chic way! And also loved the outtakes with your doggy claiming your attention! 😍😍

Thank you very much Arietta 💕 The dress at the beginning is one of my best vintage pieces though I don’t get to wear it very often. It is a 1930s chiffon evening dress with ruched bodice and most wonderful novelty print. I love the Edwardian style and of course one can sew simplified versions for the modern world. Oh those attention seeking dogs! There’s no getting away from them 😄💗🎀🤍

That was fascinating Samantha. The outfits worn by some were incredible. I wonder how they secured their rather large hats when out and about. Some look like are balancing on their head. The Suffragettes were extremely brave women when you hear what they had to endure when seeking equality for women. ❤️❤️❤️🌺

I know! Imagine huge hair with all that padding and false hair pieces then a massive hat on top held on with hair pins. Even when I’ve been out in large 40s hats, when the wind gets underneath them, they act like a sail! I was extremely affected by the movie Suffragettes. There was such pressure on these women from their husbands and fathers too. They were very brave and I admired how they got together and supported each other. Women are often subtly encouraged to compete with one another. I love to see women support each other. You’re a great supporter of other women and their creative efforts. I think it means a lot to all of us. 💗🎀🌸xx

This was really awesome. I especially love your historical talks. The Edwardian era is another one of my favorites. Especially, anything to do with the Suffragettes. I am incredibly thankful for them and for what they did. I know what they went through, when they were arrested, was absolutely horrendous, but they never backed down. This is an amazing lesson for us. I often wonder if Miss Lemon was a Suffragette. As I'm rewatching Poirot, I'm going to pay attention to see if it ever comes up. xx

Thank you so much Lizzie 💕 I had to re-record the suffragette part of my voiceover several times over because I can never help getting emotional when I talk about them. I don’t know if you ever saw the film Suffragettes. I thoroughly recommend. When I went the audience was nearly all women and not a dry eye in the house! Those women deserve to be remembered. I think Miss Lemon would have been a generation after the Suffragettes otherwise she certainly would have been one! Thank you again for watching xx

Gday Samantha. I absolutely loved this, 1 of my favorite eras, especially the history 😀I very long time ago, I used to attempt to sew dresses like that, they were shocking to say the least 😂When we hear of all the ladies being dressed by the ladies maids, I always used to wonder who dressed the servants, I know obviously it was they themselves, all the order, etiquette, refined grace & poise, everything really, always fascinates me 💙Aww, mama's paw-babies being "helpful" 😆I hope you can do some more videos like these on the same subject, especially given your knowledge 😀Thanku 'sew' much for sharing. xx 🪡✂🧵🥀

Thank you very much Ana 💕 You know the sound was a bit patchy in this video - that’s because I was trying to do the voiceover with a paw baby clinging to me because of the fireworks. I had the option of being too far away from the microphone or the soundtrack of hyperventilating dog. I’m so pleased that you find this era fascinating too. It truly was an elegant and beautiful time for dress and all that stuff like how you held your gloves signalling to a potential suitor how you felt. I love all that. I never know how far to go into all this … at what point no one would want to join me 😄 You’re right … who dressed the lady’s maids? Their blouses were less intricate but still … there were all this fastenings at the back of the neck. I have a lot of vintage and antique fashion and dressmaking magazines that could set me off on themes for videos, so I would love to do more if there’s interest! Thank you again for watching and encouraging 💗🎀🌸xx

@@Samanthalovestosew Haya. You described your paw baby & you so well there, I now have a picture in my mind of what the situation was like, as much as fireworks are pleasing to the eye for some people, all the animals, domestic & wild simply tremble in fear, poor little souls, that side of the fireworks upsets me to no end, you paw-babies have a lovely mama, so I know you would have given them all the love & kindness extra the nights when it was noisy. I guess you could mention on your videos about who would like to hear/watch all about the things you could film, social history is my all time cherished love. Have a good week sewing or otherwise. xx 🙂💙

@@patternpouchnest9529 Thank you very much Ana 💕 Yes one of the reasons I love vintage and antique clothes is that they are a window to the lives of women who lived before us. To me they always feel close, not far back in time, and I want to know what their lives were like. Thank goodness the fireworks are over for the year. I love those candid photos of the ladies! They really do make the look feel more achievable. I've always loved the beauty of the fashion plates but never even attempted to make anything for fear of ending up looking like an iced wedding cake with all the frills, lol😂. Seeing the ladies of the era in their outfits really puts the reality (vs the fashion plate artistry) in perspective. It really feels more doable. 🤍💜💚 That poor girl asking for advice. I hope all worked out well for her. 😮 I know from experience sometimes men just aren't aware. 😊 (LOL I made the first 'move' with my now husband 😂)

The candid photos of the ladies walking around London are also my favourites. Those kind of photos always make me feel better about my failure to achieve decent hairdos too 😂 It’s the same when you see candid photos of 40s women. Their Victory rolls are on the slide, their curled hair is going frizzy … and I can think ‘not just me then’ 😂 Just think if you followed ‘Amor’s (as she called herself) advice you might not be with your husband! I thought of reading all the letters from pining housemaids but wasn’t sure anyone would stick with me 😂 There was a poor girl who signed herself ‘Down Hearted Mabel’ but also ‘Fair Maisie’ who had no difficulty encouraging men and got a reply from ‘Amor’ dripping with disapproval! I think the London street scene girls avoided the wedding cake look by wearing plain walking skirts with their frilly blouses - today we’d say they were cottagecore!! Thank you very much for watching Laura 💜🤍💚

So elaborate and extravagant! What a look and I like everything about it...apart from that awful pigeon breast 😅 I, of course, would be wearing something a little more pared down as a young Ivy Unsworth in training at the funeral parlour!! ⚰️🪦 Raisin Rabbit was a major distraction this week with her pained expression 😂 She's thinking 'who IS she talking to?? She has started adopting a pained expression for any moment in time when my attention isn’t focussed solely on her! I’m not certain about the pigeon breast either, though it could be useful to distract attention away from the slightly chubby midriff that’s seen one too many almond croissants (for example ahem) Ivy Unsworth - there’s a name! 😂 You’d love some of the names in the Courtship Column… ‘down hearted Mabel’ etc. Thank you for watching!
