Just got Covid. Had a high fever last night but didn’t have a thermometer. Began feeling delirious. Was worried I was getting a high grade fever that would only increase throughout the night. I don’t have good health insurance so calling an ambulance wasn’t an option. I was afraid my fever was getting so bad as to cause some kind of brain damage. I think the worst of it is over but my head is still throbbing from the episode

Just in case you weren't, next time this happens it's so important to take anti inflammatory medicine like Acetaminophen/Tylenol, ibuprofen/motrin, or Naproxen/Aleve. You can get generic versions very cheap at any grocery store or pharmacy. They're one of the most effective ways to control your fever and pain from inflammation.

I had the flu several years ago and began having a fever of 102 and 103. Took Tylenol and slept with ice packs. I became delirious...hearing voices in my head. Then vomiting. I wanted to go to the ER but had no strength. I continued the Tylenol and ice. 8 am I was at urgent care. By 9 am took my first dose of Tamiflu. That medicine is magic. But that fever...scared me and then I gave up.

My stepdad had a 106 fever from a episode of septicemia brought on by a UTI caused by E. coli bacteria. He had very severe headache and neck pain bacterial presence in blood (Bacteremia) and meningitis like symptoms. He didn’t have any seizures but he was very delirious during the fever. We had mediately gave him ibuprofen and Tylenol and he was taken to the hospital by ambulance were they found that he had bacteremia but his blood pressure remained normal. He was put on a broad-spectrum antibiotic including some experimental antibiotics as they were worried it could be a bacterial resistant strain of E. coli.

Just starting to recover from what I believe was flu, possibly covid. This morning my temperature was 106.4° I was freezing the whole night before. I could barely move in the morning but knew I needed water. I was able to get a drink and take my temperature. I knew it would be high but never expected a number that big. I've never seen a temperature that high. This doctor says brain damage will only occur from external factors. Sounds reasonable but my brain surely felt like it was failing. I was in a stupor. I knew I needed Advil and where to get them in the house but I couldn't get myself up to get them. I had to wait for my wife to wake up to bring them to me. I sweat out the fever that same day. The fire that burns twice as bright burns only half as long.

Glad you are feeling better, we are all going through a similar thing, we got tested and tested positive for Influenza Type A. You could've had it as well. Anyways, hope you are done with it because we are in the thick of things.

@@2videosilike My wife ended up getting it, got tested and it was exactly that, type A. She immediately treated it with Tamiflu and didn't experience the full brunt but definitely had the week long chest cough. Hope your recovery is speedy and try to enjoy the downtime. On the bright side, getting back on your feet once 100% again makes you feel reborn. We all need a good flu to keep our immune systems strong. Should be good for a couple years now. Best of luck.

My son started seizing with a temp of 100-101 the doctors couldn’t figure out why he was having fever related seizures at such a low grade temp . They ran every test on him and this was when he was 18 months , they put him on phenobarbital while in the hospital and it got to the point ( while in the hospital ) that if he missed a dose he would go into another seizure, he didn’t even have a fever at that point they were just a couple min late since the last time he had a dose of phenobarbital, they sent us home with a bottle of phenobarbital and not able to tell us why this was happening , this went on for 18 Months ( for as long as he was alive before the seizures started ) it didn’t matter whether he had a fever or not he could not miss a dose or he would seize then he outgrew them by the age of 3 and was severely behind , he was in special class all his life. He is now 22 almost 23 and I just took him to a psychiatrist and they gave him an extensive I.Q . Test and I just got the results , basically the seizures fried his brain . They said he was like 3 levels below where he was suppose to be for his age . He has a 3 rd grade math comprehension a 6th grade reading level and a 6th graders cognitive understanding . The seizures caused an extensive amount of brain damage . His short-term and long term memory are shot . While he was having the seizures I noticed a really weird smell from his breath every time he had them , I guess that was his brain cooking .

If his highest temp was 101, I genuinely don't think it's likely at all that fever is what caused his seizures. It was most likely an underlying form of epilepsy or some other condition that makes people prone to have seizures, and didn't present itself until that time. I'm really sorry about that though, it sounds terrible for both of you. I hope he is somewhat happy now and that it's more controlled.
