Housing is a priority FOR OVER SEAS HOTEL WORKERS! They will build a subdivision with apartments to homes near Koolina to Kahala Mandarin but they won’t build homes at Kaena point or in waimanalo? I grew up in Hawaii in the 60ies and 70ies. Nothing has changed. By the late 70ies, with 16% interest rates, I was working two jobs, 7 days a week, and was just scraping by. I moved to the mainland and life was a whole lot easier. For Hawaii, there is no going back. Better you hang loose and have a mimosa!

So very sad, and this is their land, why do they have to leave their own islands. Green needs to do more than just talk! There is no affordable housing here for the natives. I come from Tahiti, and I do not see any islanders leaving their islands, because they have not been pushed out by greedy developers like here on Oahu. My prayers to the Hawaiians natives!

There’s also a lack of resources, places to go locally, and job and educational opportunities, the minimum wage pay is still about $11 which is under the average of $20, healthcare is horrible and there’s a shortage of doctors, and people often have to work 3 jobs here. There is also a huge stigma when it comes to many things because there is a lack of education and well-paid and qualified teachers and people have adopted a fear-based mindset and attitude that is more common in Asian cultures, it takes forever to get anywhere because traffic is horrendous and the bus gets involved with the cars on the road since the island is too small to accommodate a full light rail, and everything is the same and doesn’t change which makes people here feel stuck in one place contributing to mental health issues especially in young adults. It’s so expensive here that young people cannot rent a place of their own even after high school or college and have to live in an intergenerational home into adulthood and ageing with their families, typically at least 5-8 people living in one household including extended family who all pitch in income to buy one house, lack of variety in foods and dependent on shipments from Asia and mainland and highly dependent on tourism, the local politicians don’t do much about the issues, the mainland sends the houseless a one-way ticket to Hawaii, there is a lack of social support on the island for everything, and there is discrimination and racism amongst ethnic groups between Chinese, Korean, Filipinos, native Hawaiians, pacific island communities, and Japanese that started since the pineapple and sugar cane plantation days in Hawaii’s history, and Hawaii has a history of colonization,

When you sell land, you have to pay taxes, realtor, accountant, maybe lawyer if need. You only get about 30%.
