I was taking magnesium glycinate, 665 mg/day as capsule. After about 6 days of taking it at bedtime, I started to feel very tired and weak. Also had tightness of breath and some pulse irregularities. Didn't know I could overdose on magnesium at that level but I did. Very dangerous stuff.

I was taking 800 mg of magnesium a day. After a hair test analysis showed I was actually low in magnesium high in sodium and potassium normal I decided to increase my magnesium glycinate to 1600 mg per day after watching Morley Robbins videos on how great magnesium is and he makes it sound so harmless. I started feeling very and just off. Then my heart felt weird I feel light headed and I had a faint pain in my left arm. I learned from my aunt there's two major minerals associated with heart attacks. Low magnesium and low potassium. I had a bottle of liquid potassium and started drinking it right away and I felt better. I think all that magnesium without adding potassium really made my potassium low. I won't be making that mistake again.

1600 mg magnesium was way too much to be taking for a supplement. That is where you went wrong.

I'm a 29Yr male, and I was taking 400Mg of Magnesium oxide a day for almost a month, and it ended up making me feel REALLLY bad starting after a week of taking it and got slowly worse over 3-4 weeks. I had mild/constant stomach cramps & aches, loose stools, severe depression, bad fatigue, really bad brain fog and bogged mental ability, just a general feeling of bad. It got so severe I consulted with my close friend (she's an RN) and she quickly helped me realize that it was from taking that Mag supplement every day for 30 days. I stopped taking it and I felt 75% better in one day, 90% the next. And just an FYI, I was weaning down buprenorphine at that time and I attributed the negative feelings to my body adjusting, the only reason it went on that long at all

I had 2 seizures (the first pretty bad, the 2nd nearly killed me) this past March from Mag Glycinate. I was taking 500mg a day for a year and a half, then out of the blue i had extreme symptoms. My heart and muscles were screwed up for about a week after the second attack, and im still worried about going back to my diet of mostly whole foods. Ive been eating processed foods for the past few weeks in an effort to lower my magnesium levels. Never taking it as a supplement again
@donmulder8061 Жыл бұрын
I started taking 200 mg per day of Magnesium Glycinate. Then I increased it to 400 mg. On some days I may have taken another in the morning so I may have had as much as 600 mg on many days. I went in for surgery pre-op and when I had my EKG done, I had an abnormal EKG -- First Degree AV Block. That day I had several skipped beats and short tachycardias. That night I stopped taking magnesium and my heart beat went right back to normal. My EKG was normal the following week at a follow up. Not sure if the magnesium dosage had anything to do with it but glad it passed.

I tried taking a magnesium citrate supplement and started feeling like my blood pressure dropped, I was starting to sweat, and my breathing felt shallow or lighter. I tried other times in the future with water drops and still the same off feeling. I have anxiety problems anyways but I know it was the magnesium. I had two scary nights after taking very little of the supplement, but I couldn't find any more info on my side effects. I recommend caution with Mg!

Oh cool I found someone with the same symptoms as me. I couldn’t exercise because I would feel like I was going to pass out and when I would get up I would see Black easily. My blood sugar was going low too. Probably because magnesium lowers the other electrolytes and getting calcium is hard enough when avoiding dairy. Not sure if you also avoided dairy or limited it like me.
@garrettwillett8 ай бұрын
@@InjusticeJosh I'm sorry you experienced such symptoms. :( I have limited dairy intake too but due to sensitive digestion. It makes sense that balancing Mg and Ca would be important. Some people say getting more K helps, but I haven't paid enough attention to that personally.
@InjusticeJosh8 ай бұрын
@@garrettwillett Ah I dunno the relationship with K in that equation but I definitely do feel better after eating salads. Though could just be the calcium and potassium. I also feel inflammation and other symptoms after eating dairy, gluten, corn, and oats to a lesser extent so I’m finding what works for me. Trying to find a good way to get calcium in and Parmesan cheese has been it lately. Fresh cheeses like fresco I do better with as well. Broccoli, quality Greek yogurt, sardines and Tofu are also great.

How much magnesium do you have to take to get the first cluster of symptoms? I was taking magnesium citrate 300mg elemental and lately added magnesium taurate 146mg, (from 780mg magnesium taurate) Not sure what the last sentence means but that's what it says on the bottle. Was I taking too much? I have had some strange symptoms but when I added the taurate that's when things started getting weird.

At 13:30 at the top magnesium when you say 5-7 mg/dL is that The same equivalent of taking 500 700mg? Magnesium a day? I added up all the magnesium I was taking and I was shocked because it was 1300 mg throughout the day since then I cut that in half to 500 now. I taking it for keeping blood pressure low and for a healthy heart rate but probably do not need over 800 to do that.
