1. You can choose your emotions. 2. Create a sense of identity. Stick to that identity and meet it's requirements by behaving in the required manner to maintain that identity. 3. Stick to a purpose. Usually high performers think of one person that could benefit from their work. Have the image of that person on your mind and strive to help "that person". Thanks man! Great vid.

It's incredible how I just learned about Brendan's book and considered getting it but then thought about my existing reading list queue, and thought maybe I'll just check youtube. BINGO! You nailed it. This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for, and you've saved me so much time, not to mention will undoubtedly boost my performance! I finally have my dream job but have really lofty sales goals I need to hit, I can tell these strategies will get me there. I've already integrated a mindset that failure is not an option (Death Ground), and all 3 of the areas you highlighted are insightful, however I think I'll most benefit from "bringing my 'A' game". I loved your example and how 'meta' it was. Thank you for this incredible content, keep up the excellent work!

The idea of identity as something we cab cultivate not something that we need to find stood out to me - even though it wasn't a core point. I think I will be mulling on that idea a bit this week.

To be honest, I have experienced that "necessity through identity" can also be rather dangerous. Simply put, it's the core reason why many people end up with a burnout. They feel the "must work hard since they want the identity of a hard worker", and as a result they go beyond their limits.

Today I really needed this book review. Funny thing, I read the words of Bob Marley while daydreaming through homegoods section of a store this weekend. I was stressing and felt downhearted and needed inspiration. I took a picture of the words in the frame "You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have". I then asked my self who coined these words? At the time I had no clue. But it gave me power to move pass my current situation and push forward. Thanks to your commitment to your channel and the power of words and experience in this book, I now have the endurance I need to continue doing what I do best. Thank you.

Re: #3...Heidi Baker, the head of Iris Ministries is often asked how she can love so much & so well. She responds that her identity is based upon being God's beloved daughter who sent Jesus to die for her, thus she is able to turn around and stop for the one. Heidi focuses on loving one person at a time.

When Jordan Peterson gives a lecture he focuses on one person at a time, in his classroom or in a packed theater. He says it gives him feedback while speaking. This is an application of focusing on a single person. Also authors sometimes pick one person to write their book for. This is also an application of focusing on one person. Although I think in the above video it is also about giving meaning to your work. Somehow helping the world is not at meaningful as helping one person. And then you move from helping one - to helping the world one person at a time.
