On every vacation, I visit at least one scenic lookout, but until now I never really stopped to think about how important these high places are to the overall experience of a city (I'm not talking about skyscrapers).

I never thought about this characteristic of cities. Thanks for this interesting video. It makes me able to deepen my knowledge of cities on things most don't talk about.

I've been on a kick with your videos in the last week. I'm really enthralled.by your simplistic but high quality production style. I was taken in by your digestible explication of Jane Jacobs's work and principles. This video, which is more simple and less structured, shows how you're growing as a commentator on the urban experience. I don't subscribe to people often but I can't wait for your next production so i hit that bell.

colorado is great at having many mini-mountains within walking distance where you can take a walk alone. I agree with needing more public man-made high places in flat cities where one could meander to.

These high places and buildings are an example of what I call "emotional anchorpoints", which we need to feel at home. When I moved from my hilly region with loads of castles, to a polder with only new buildings, I tried hard to find a place that immediately touched me. Ultimately only a few places with landscape art and an old dyke with a breach and a huge red sluice-gate qualified. I guess you're spoiled when every place has old, interesting buildings, and the roads in between have all kinds of interestingly framed views into yet another valley.

Ooh, I like that term -- emotional anchor point. Sounds like you used to live in a beautiful place.

Elephant Mountain in Taipei puts you face to face with Taipei 101. I've climbed Elephant Mountain, I've rode the elevator to the top of Taipei 101, the mountain is more fun. Plus you get some stunning views of Taipei 101 and its interplay with the sometimes low cloud cover of Taipei.
