In this video I show what you need and how I replaced my high pressure power steering hose. What I didn't mention was the orings that come with the new hose. Always make sure the old orings have been removed. My old ones were still on both ends of the hose once removed. This should work for any GM truck from 2002-2006 with 5.3 L V8 Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, Silverado, Sierra etc. Also I use Rock Auto when I need parts.

I was able to replace mine without touching the shroud, but THANK YOU for being literally the only person who says what size sockets or wrenches you’ll need!! That’s the main piece of information I need to know. That way I’m not out in the cold trying different sizes

I second this. God bless you, sir. Literally, no one else mentions wrench sizes.

I had to remove the skid plates to get to the lower bolt. The hose kept twisting on me when trying to get it to go back in. Needed somebody up top to push it in while I got it going from below. Def not an easy fix haha. This two minutes video had me feeling confident haha. Took me about 6 hours all together in the heat but it got done.

That sounds about the way all my projects go. My wife will ask “how long will it take?” If I think it’s 30 mins I tell her 3 hrs. And that’s usually what happens. Lol Thanks for the feedback.

Just did mine. The bottom is definitely way harder on a 4x4. Thanks for the video and tips! One more thing: it's easier to put the bottom back on before the top.

Yeah, that's a very tough connection to get to, but I managed without removing the shroud and such. But I did buy a kind of fancy tool from OReilly's, "Power Torque 16mm X 18mm double flexible flare nut wrench" Part # GM0024 for only about $16 and that helped. Otherwise it's just too crowded in there. I'd rather buy a relatively cheap tool than take stuff apart that I have to put back together when I'm done.

Your replacing it anyways. Couldnt you just cut the tubing and put an 18mm socket on it?
@1234Scott
@1234Scott 2 жыл бұрын
You might could if you can get a cutter blade or snips down in there. Either way to install the new one you have to get down in there to tighten it.

@@1234Scott It worked well . I took a bolt cutter as far down as I could get it. Then I clamped my large vice grip on and bent back and forth into fatigue. I put my deep socket on. I found getting in to tighten the new one easy. Hope so for anyone else to.

Bottom line was NOT easy. Use a longer open end wrench. Not a line wrench. I Had to remove my skid plate to get to it also. Crank the tires to the left so it gives u more space between the differential and center link. The top part of the line is easy if u spray it with wd40 or if its already soaked with power steering fluid. I dident have to remove the fan shrowd.

What was your truck doing that you had to replace this?? Only leaking?
@1234Scott
@1234Scott 2 жыл бұрын
It was leaking. If you don’t park where it’s noticeable that it’s leaking, when the power steering fluid starts getting low it will start squealing when you turn the steering wheel. That will get louder as the fluid gets lower until the power steering pump burns out. You probably know all this but someone else reading this may not. Hope this helps.

It’s a high pressure line so I really don’t think any tape will help.

Is it just a straight forward remove and replace? Or do I have to worry about air bubbles or bleeding it?
@1234Scott
@1234Scott 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. I didn’t have to bleed it. I think it works itself out without it. Never noticed any operational issues afterward at all.
@alaneverett9767

Once you have it filled up and everything's working you turn your steering wheel all the way one way and then all the way back the other way and that clears out all the air. I do it while I'm moving a little bit so I avoid stress on the tires
