In our sea kayak- both paddler and instructor- educations in Denmark.
We are phasing out the High brace recovery stroke. It is one of the strokes where your potentially is at risk of injuring your shoulders. When I went though my educations it was mandatory and since it is still in the curriculum. I still do it.
If you’re at a place where you still do it or is ok with the risk. I have found that if you want to minimize the impact on your shoulders. You wait to initiate the stoke until your body hits the water. Then your shoulder doesn’t have to carry your body weight while in a disadvantageous position.
It is also suggested to use the roll as a recovery instead of using the high brace
The big difference in performance level on the right and left side is because I usually only do it when teaching. And of course I demo the nice side 😂 any other instructors who is familiar with this?
