That was actually the plastic from when the machine was new haha, we just didn't remove it yet. You could probably just use kitchen plastic wrap though if you wanted.

It really depends on the size of the jobs and how much you are charging. We don't use it for every job.

My orbit can use that pad for some reason. It dies out.

That's not so much a pad issue, but how thick the pad is versus the thickness (friction) against the carpet... vs the horsepower of the machine being used. There seems to be thicker and thinner pads of every material now... except the loopy rayon bonnets from what I have seen.
