I think you should open up the doublings and other movements when playing it, especially at this speed. If you’re slowing the whole tune down, everything should open out, those notes within the doublings count towards the tempo.

Indeed. It is my understanding that there are two schools of thought on this topic. I do both methods depending upon the student’s needs and capabilities. The student targeted for this video has good internal structure and speed with his doublings. This video was focusing on 2/4 March rhythms. I always play doublings up to speed for students who are capable of that. Thanks for the visit and the comment. Much appreciated.
