I fished this lake this past Christmas, I was in the long creek arm east of the rail road bridge. Got one hit, but no fish on the yak. Though conditions this past weekend. Beautiful lake. My in laws live 30 minutes away. I’ll be back up from Ga in the spring hopefully.

The standing timber is underwater and deep. Water on this lake stays heavily stained throughout the year from the yadkin river. Most fish are caught shallow on docks trees and rocks. Offshore fishing on this lake typically 8 to 12 foot. A big rain will blow out the whole main lake with mud coming downriver.

Sounds like a shallow water paradise

@@ChrisFiore1 it can be good or tough just depends. I grew up fishing buggs island and the way high rock fishes is just like a mini version of it. Usually one creek or area of the lake thats firing better and u gotta find it. Average size fish better than buggs but not the numbers.

I saw a guy get stuck on a flat in the middle of the lake . he was running about 45 and came to a complete stop. he is lucky it was a soft sandy bottom. he was able to get out and push his boat to deep enough water to get out.

The lakes almost 100 years old most of the standing timber has decayed and rotted a lot of good stumps left tho. And hint the name ton of rocks. and more docks than it needs The lake was drawn down almost 30 feet about 20 years ago there’s a couple of small patches of standing timber out near the river channel near second creek. Brush piles are out there by the hundreds and new discoveries almost every time I go. Super great lake though. I’ll have to look and see if I can find the article to get my numbers right but the North Carolina state record was caught in Highrock and while the fish was in the Livewell it threw up another bass that weighed a pound and some change. Average bass is 4 to 5 pounds. Double digit is not unheard of. Crappie average 10” and up. 2 plus pounds very common. Most people I talk too throw anything around two back for the breeders.

Very nice description of the lake. I’ve grew up there. This is one of the best crappie fishing lakes in the entire country in my opinion. Great bass fishing too. If your passionate about crappie fishing go check out PR Fishing channel. He lives on this lake and is the CRAPPIE GOD.

Can these ideas work for locating crappie or is this just bass fishing tactics?
@ChrisFiore12 жыл бұрын
Not sure on crappie I know they holes on almost any brush lilt but also crappie do like to suspend and roam in open water in creek channels the big ones are typically loners swimming around

Come on down and fish HighRock…. I’ll show you around. Lived near this lake my entire life, and just bought a house a few years ago right beside the Holloway Church Road side of the lake, near Abbots Creek / Sheets Bottom.
