Clearly he wasn't thriving in the environment he was in, so the fact that she had him work was a good thing. She didn't allow him to sit at home and do nothing. "If you're gonna drop out, you're gonna work" seems to have been her angle, and that's a good way to foster character.

At the job I have, we hire a lot of temp workers. Many of which are minors and in HS. I like to ask them about what their plans are for the future, because it's interesting to hear what a 17 year old has planned for the future. And some are adamant about wanting to go into law, or medicine, or social services. And I tell them how that's great to know your path. But many are just unsure, but they tell me how they "have" to make a decision soon. To them I explain the idea of a "gap year". It's ok to not be sure. Spend a year working a real job, having real responsibility in the real world. You'll either figure out what "other" path you want, or you will have a great desire to indeed go to school and you will do great, because it will be caused by a true want to do it

havent watched yet but my eyes darted when i saw the "high school drop out" part of the title after reading the "jake johnson" part i didnt really have a choice in dropping out, and honestly its impressive i got as far as i did in high school as i did before having to leave. after i dropped out it tore me apart. school was the one elementary of stability ive had in my life and it was just gone one day. funnily enough the week i was supposed to have graduated i had deleted all my socials and fell into new girl and watched it for 2 weeks straight in the beginning of the break down and nick was alarmingly relatable/the character i connected with the most. also i just loved jake along w rhe cast and have followed their work outside of it since and seeing one of my favorites also was a drop out is somewhat 'hey! im not alone!' especially in a world right now where everyone is expected to go to college or else youre not really looked on nicely by others and opportunities are shit without some sort of degree. growing up through multiple recessions and seeing that affect my parents job security both being just high school graduates and hearing how you cant be a ups driver without an associates and shit. (context: i was supposed to graduate in 2019)

I have no idea how to raise my daughter. She's 3. She's not growing up in Ellis Isiand or in a prep school. How do you raise a child??? The best I can think to do is make her think she's less funny than she is, because I'm so funny, and she thinks she's funnier. I've raised her to be a literal cheeseburger and she has it in her head that she's an actual person. Her sense of self is so much stronger than my will for her to be a main course. I have no idea what people went through to both raise children and judge themselves doing it. I'm raising a cheeseburger. How did the rest of y'all do it???
