Thank you for this. My school has a decent livestream setup for sports, but I'm frequently looking for how others are doing it. Not a lot of folks show off and explain their setups. Scoreboard+ is a great lead. I created scoreboard graphics and then layered OBS text over that for last basketball season, but I'm very interested in trying out something a little more automated. Those + / - score buttons looks very useful.

In the OBS audio mixer, you have to click on the gear for advanced audio settings and turn on monitoring for the camera audio. I do this before the game to get my levels set then turn monitoring off so I don't hear the crowd noise during the livestream in my headset.

Would be greatly interested in seeing your scoreboard setup using OBS. How you make your graphics within your software of choice. I have been inspired by your videos and have been tinkering with projectors within OBS to output my live stream scoreboard onto an LCD display such as a TV screen using the scoreboard plus plugin. Think PC - Scoreboards but way cheaper. Have you considered using the Elgato stream deck within your workflow, it works well with OBS. Also do you color calibrate your Sony camera so that it matches the Canon Vixia or vice versa. I have a Panasonic AG-UX 180 and a JVC GY HM150 as a secondary camera but have difficulty in getting the color's to match. The JVC sensor see's colors way differently from the Panasonic and no matter what I seem to do I cant match them. Any thoughts or perhaps maybe time for an upgrade.

Hey Mike great job describing a relatively small and medium setup. My question is for creating coaches video as opposed to streaming video that will be uploaded to Hudl. We currently have two cameras that create play by play clips that are integrated into one continuous video inside of the Hudl software. It matches timestamps and is almost flawless if the 2 cameras have equal amount of clips. We would like to add scoreboard and time to the sideline (not endzone) video. Would OBS be all we need to add that graphic to every clip ? We didnt want to have to setup a third camera focused on the scoreboard and have to integrate PIP on the sideline only (but maybe that is the least expensive). Thanks for any help
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Best option here would be pushing both cameras into the computer and using OBS to position them and the scoreboard/clock graphic how you want it and use OBS to record a single clip instead of having to edit it together in post. After the game, the video is instantly saved as an .mp4 and can immediately be available to coaches to watch after the game. Use Mars 300 transmitter/receivers to get the signal to the PC and then use the HDMI to USB capture cards to plug the receivers into the PC.

@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
I don't have enough subscribers on my other channel to monetize so the options are to sell sponsorships at $200 per game or you can set up pay-per-view streams on Facebook and charge $5 to watch. I think sponsorships and free streaming for viewers is the best option. My suggestion is offer a package deal for the season. $2000 per season per sponsor and include a free TV ad. So if they buy the package, you send a crew or videographer to their business and shoot a free commercial that runs at least twice during each game. It will usually run more than twice but that is the minimum. You get 12-15 sponsors and you've covered expenses and made a nice little profit for the season.

Great info. I'm looking to start a sports streaming service for our youth football league. Question. Since most of the fields we go to have no internet/wifi what do you recommend using to get your signal streamed to a streaming service without interruptions in the stream. I tried a normal hotspot and had trouble with the stream. Any info would be great. Thanks.
@MikesWorld12 жыл бұрын
I stream through my Verizon iPhone hotspot for HS football games. I put the phone in DO NOT DISTURB mode during the stream. Now, I have great service in the press box at my locations. That might now be the case for you. I also have to stream at 1280x720 1.9Mbs. Any higher resolution or speed and the stream gets glitchy. Ideally, you want a hard line connection. The other (and much more expensive option) is a bonded cellular connection. These are units such as a Dejero, Teradek, or LiveU that send the signal out over up to 8 USB cellular cards. These work great but are expensive and you'll need a plan for each card which is very expensive.

Getting the score from the scoreboard requires sending the signal through the internet from the scoreboard to a third party vendor then connecting that link to your online scoreboard controller such as scoreboard+. That's how ESPN is able to have running scoreboards and clocks with the scores on their website. A google search of the subject can explain it better.

Yes, I'll do a video on how to do that very soon.

Hi I also had another question, when you live stream does the footage still get saved to my sd card ?
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Where is the SD card? I'm using the original ATEM Mini so I'm recording raw into my camera on SD cards but the final output is recorded to the laptop hard drive. You can set it to record wherever you want so you could put a SD card in your laptop and set it to record to that card.

Mike what would you recommend for basketball games??
@MikesWorld12 жыл бұрын
Same setup would work for basketball EXCEPT you need a dedicated person to run the scoreboard and clock. The person calling the game could never keep up.

I’ve worked in the radio industry for 5 years and am looking to branch out into my own mini live streaming business thorough KZbin, broadcasting sports. I’m starting from scratch and this video has helped clear some things up! If you or anyone in the comments know and don’t mind, I do have some questions about the Sony Nx5u, what is a cheaper camera option if there is one, to have enough inputs to cover what’s needed? I’m using a laptop with the 20 dollar Andycine HDMI and a mixer for audio. Is there any camera I can use that’s cheaper? Also, what are all the cables needed other than the mixer audio cables to and from the computer which I’m familiar with? Lastly, is there anyway you can make a video with the equipment I’m gonna use and do a video presentation on it? Thanks!
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Most important part of the camera for sports is having XLR inputs, 20x optical zoom, and HDMI output. You could go with a Panasonic AC30 for $1250 but that’s about as cheap as you should go.

How much is the budget for all those equipments...im really into broadcasting
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Quick estimate: Camera: $1200-$1500 minimum for a decent camera Tripod: $1000 Laptop: $1300 ATEM Mini: $250 GoPro: $400 HDMI Monitor: $260 Optional PC Monitor: $200 Broadcast Headsets: $300 x 2 = $600 Assorted Cables and Adapters: $400 Adobe Creative Cloud Subscription: $50/month TOTAL: $6510 This is the minimum equipment to stream the way I do it. I have about $15k in equipment that I use, but that's mainly because I bought the Sony NX5U camera new for $5000. The newest version is the Sony NX5R which sells for $3000 new today. You can go with something cheaper but you want to make sure the camera has at least a 20x optical zoom and the ability to connect a remote zoom controller. For Panasonic and Sony cameras, its called LANC control. This is also equipment I've acquired over about 10 years. I also have additional monitors and backup cameras in case something fails.

Hi Mike. I do livestream outdoor. How can I power the camcorder (mini usb) and android phone (tjpe c) because the live stream can take 5-10 hours. Is there a good power bank for that purpose.

I use portable power banks that have AC plugs. Power Station - www.jackery.com/products/explorer-160-portable-power-station Power Bar - www.amazon.com/Renogy-Portable-27000mAh-External-Compatible/dp/B07SVCYXMH/ref=sr_1_13?dchild=1&keywords=jackery+power+bar&qid=1619621478&sr=8-13

What video settings do you use? My videos in OBS always come out choppy
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Input signal is 1920x1080. Output stream is 1280x720 at 2000kbps using Hardware (QSV) encoder option. Downscale Filter is set to Bicubic (Sharpened scaling, 16 samples). With these settings I can stream for up to 4 hours through my Verizon iPhone hotspot without any choppy video or buffering. The last game I attempted to up the stream to 1920x1080 at 2500kbps and got choppy video. Streaming anything over 2Mbs that isn't on a hard wire is going to give you issues. Even if the stream starts strong, the wireless carriers will eventually throttle you after about 30 minutes of streaming over 2Mbs.

Hello, I have all the neccesary equipment to capture/live stream a highschool football game. My question now is, how do I approach schools to offer this as a service? Any tips?
@MikesWorld1 Жыл бұрын
Only the biggest schools will have the funds to pay you to do it and those schools usually have student run live streams. The more likely way to make money is offer to stream for free and, in turn, you go out and sell advertising in the steam to make money.

This setup is VERY cheap compared to a full on professional setup that could easily run $25k. Of all the items you need, the tripod is the one you don't want to go cheap on.

Hi Mike. Currently I audio stream multiple high school football games per week. I would like to tie in my audio with the schools video but I'm not sure how. I would appreciate suggestions Thanks
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delayed response. There are a lot of factors at play to merge the two. First, you'll need to get a feed from the school via HDMI. How to do that depends on their setup. If you can get an HDMI feed, then you can bring in the audio via XLR input to an iRig that then connects to the PC. You merge the two in OBS which is a simple setup and stream out from there. I wish I could be more specific but I don't know what your setup is.

What do you do to prevent the stream from skipping and the video being clean and clear? Is that just dependent on the internet connection in the box?
@MikesWorld1 Жыл бұрын
It’s a combination of the internet connection and the stream settings. I found streaming at 720p 2250Mbs is perfect. Going up to 1080p or a higher bitrate causes it to be choppy

I still recommend the Dynabook (Toshiba) Tecra AF50 laptop. Mine has been flawless. As far as camera, I prefer Sony so I'd go with a Sony HXR-NX5R. Can't go wrong with that setup.

Do you need permission from the high schools to live stream a game on like you tube?
@MikesWorld1 Жыл бұрын
It depends on the state and that athletic organizations rules. In Oklahoma, you need permission from the home team’s athletic director for regular season games. Playoffs you need to pay a fee to the state and get approved through them.

I'd like to use two BPHS-1 head sets with OBS Studio. The Atem mini pro mic inputs are clearly not the right size. What mixer would I run to solve the issue. Like a Scarlett 4i4? (I'm completely new to all this)
@MikesWorld13 жыл бұрын
You can use two BPHS-1 headsets into the ATEM mini using a XLR to 3.5mm adapter.
