I just realized: you know what would be so cool? If for pin secured USB drive there were multiple file safes. Ie entering one PIN would grant access to a certain group of files, whereas another would lead to a different group. Handy if you want to give certain people access to only specific files (eg a will or handing off some specific files to a colleague without granting them access to everything) but also if you were ever in a situation where you’re forced to unlock the drive, that you can just unlock a certain, non-compromising area of it, making it appear as though you just granted someone access to everything.

Isn’t the problem with these solutions that you could see the volumes on the file directory? So if one were being coerced to open the usb drive then they’d be subsequently coerced to open the encrypted volumes. I think the author was suggesting the different codes would open different volumes.

Instead of that data-only dongle, users might get an inexpensive USB tester. They typically provide a charge-only port like that dongle. But they also provided over-voltage protection and the ability to measure charging current and total charge. The last is handy if you suspect your phone is no longer taking a full charge. They're now coming out with versions for USB-C.

This is great stuff. There are all kinds of things out there that work with everyday tech situations. I work for county government public works where we use many vehicles and about 7 or 8 yrs ago, they suddenly one day they decided they needed GPS tracking in all the vehicles and were going to test it first on myself and another guy who we both had specific jobs I won't say, just in case, you know. But I was pissed thinking I'm going to be watched all day. What's the point of being by yourself all day if you can't do this and that, as long as you're getting your job done. I decided to do a simple search and found alot of expensive stuff to block it, but then I came across this device you just stick in the power jack (cigerette lighter) and it claimed to stop any GPS tracking. And it was only about 10 bucks. So I bought it and it worked like a charm. I couldn't believe it, worked great. I would take it out now and then, of course only when I was where I was supposed to be and put back after a while. Did this all day. The other guy was pissed cause they were only calling him all day. So I got him one and we both did the same thing for about a month, while their techies kept trying to fix it at the computer level. And even had the installers come back a couple times to see what's wrong in the trucks. Of course they never found anything wrong and decided these things didn't work so good and were more trouble than they're worth. They never once suspected we were doing anything. I mean, what did a couple of dumb blue colors know about stopping GPS. So they told the company no thanks and to this day not one vehicle can be tracked. It was the greatest thing to see these two 10$ cigerette sized electronic devices put the lid on setting up an entire public works fleet from having GPS. We're dying to tell the other guys, but we know it will somehow end up in the wrong ears. But I'm good with that if he does, as I'm retiring in 6 months. Things move so fast these days, that I doubt they would still work with the more up to date GPS there must be out there. But I'll bet you there's advancements on those blockers as well. By no means does everything have simple answers in our new tech world, but there will always be some that do and are worth trying if they're cheap like these were. Or some cases, free. Love this guy's channel though, been learning more than I ever thought I could about privacy issues and such. Cause there are more than just information hounds out there to get us to spend money. The theifs aren't even the worse. There are some downright maniacs out there trying to do many awful things to people in this world. Conspiracy has suddenly become reality. So now free speech has become more valuable than gold imo. Well very soon anyway. Nothing more I'd like to be wrong about than that.

It’s highly likely that if you bought a $10 “GPS Blocker” that it’s something cheap from China that is just interfering with a large band of RF. Be careful with that thing, it’s super illegal and the FCC doesn’t mess around, if it causes enough interference they can dispatch people to track down the source. People that used them have parked near airports before and accidentally caused huge problems… That being said, good job keeping The Man from needlessly spying on employees!

I use Keypass to store all my passwords and where they go, and it is hidden in my USB/Flash Drive, which is very difficult to find. I don't type in the password, I copy and paste the PW for Keypass. Keypass also has autotype for inputting your PW. I enjoyed a very good video and will look into getting some of the suggestions. You have a new subscriber too. The Virtual CC is a good idea to have, like Calling Cards to hide where you are and who you are.

I like the extra security the Onlykey affords. If I lose it or if I forget and leave it plugged into my desktop while I go to lunch, no one can get to whatever I have stored on it. It's like sandwiching a door smart-lock onto a Yubikey.

The data blocker is interesting and identifiable that you are protecting your data. Another possibility are cheap cords that do not transmit data but will only charge. Not as identifiable though, but would they also be an alternative to prevent juice jacking? I imagine they may be also more limited to the type of plug. Lastly, if one does not have a data blocker, is it safe to use one's own power adapter? How about if you share your power adapter (multiple outputs) with someone who also wants to charge from the same plug and/or may already be using the plug you need, so sharing would be the condition for use? Thanks for the video.

I’m not sure if this is more sophisticated than simply disconnecting the 2 inner pins of the USB-A connector or not, but a cord that only charges is the same effect. Unless someone has embedded a device in the charger, it’s pretty unlikely to be unsafe & I feel that same about USB charging outlets in public locations like airports. But.. the device is great & would be a good piece of mind to plug into your charge cable & use all the time.

It doesn't really matter. USB-flashes are not SSDs, there no any refresh/rewrite procedures in their firmware, AFAIK. Only NAND forward error correction written on inital file write protects your data on USB-flash for a while. You need to re-write data to USB-flash to make them live longer. And, obviously, do backups on case of harware fault.

Regarding any fear about crypto cold storage, my biggest concern is figuring out how to use the Nano. You can create a cold storage paper crypto wallet online. It only consists of two keys generated at random. You can print out the keys and keep them someplace safe. Putting coin into a paper wallet is easy, getting it out is a little more difficult. That's the reason for going with Ledger.

Not sure when they added this, but Android by default does not automatically do data connection when you plug in your phone (I assume Apple did this at some point as well). This could be enough to where you don't need a hardware USB data blocker. Then again, bugs have been found in USB, so if you are super concerned, but want to be able to charge in public, you could go for the data blocker. They also make cables that do data blocking so that you don't have an extra piece of small easily-lost hardware. Dude, you just showed us two consecutive codes for all your apps. That might be enough to reconstruct your entire sequence of codes, because the entire code sequence is generated algorithmically (that's why you do not need a data connection to get a code).

Josh, I have read a fair bit re 2FA, but after a number of years, I am still not able to get my head around it because no one seems to be able to explain it SIMPLY using a whiteboard. I use Protonmail and their VPN, but they also have a facility for me to use/setup a 2FA "system" - for the life of me can I figure out why - if protonmail is already "secure". It would assist a lot of people if you could explain how to set up 2FA using a step type format, so that we can follow. Rob Braxman is good, but his explanations are above most people's ability to understand without the use of a simple step by step procedure on a white board. Yes, I am an educator.

I'd LOVE to use a 2FA key. I bought the damned things because I thought they'd be a wonderful way to increase the security of my accounts. Then I found out that absolutely NO site that I use supports these things. It MIGHT be useful if you happen to need to log into the Federal Reserve's servers to do some multibillion-dollar transactions. But my bank did not support them, and I didn't find any other consumer banks on the list. Same with Amazon, Twitter, and Netflix -- almost NONE of the websites that the average consumer uses support YubiKey. They are great in theory but, for most people, utterly useless in practice.

Tape over a microphone is very limited. It makes casual listening a bit more difficult but it’s not difficult to adjust the audio stream to get rid of the muffling effect. Besides, when you uncover it to use it, the mic is not dedicated to the app you are using and that's when you’ll likely be saying something secure. Technically, a lot of cameras have weak IR filters and so you could still obtain some limited video through tape. And if your camera has a night vision mode, tape is pretty useless
