I just realized: you know what would be so cool? If for pin secured USB drive there were multiple file safes. Ie entering one PIN would grant access to a certain group of files, whereas another would lead to a different group. Handy if you want to give certain people access to only specific files (eg a will or handing off some specific files to a colleague without granting them access to everything) but also if you were ever in a situation where you’re forced to unlock the drive, that you can just unlock a certain, non-compromising area of it, making it appear as though you just granted someone access to everything.

This is great stuff. There are all kinds of things out there that work with everyday tech situations. I work for county government public works where we use many vehicles and about 7 or 8 yrs ago, they suddenly one day they decided they needed GPS tracking in all the vehicles and were going to test it first on myself and another guy who we both had specific jobs I won't say, just in case, you know. But I was pissed thinking I'm going to be watched all day. What's the point of being by yourself all day if you can't do this and that, as long as you're getting your job done. I decided to do a simple search and found alot of expensive stuff to block it, but then I came across this device you just stick in the power jack (cigerette lighter) and it claimed to stop any GPS tracking. And it was only about 10 bucks. So I bought it and it worked like a charm. I couldn't believe it, worked great. I would take it out now and then, of course only when I was where I was supposed to be and put back after a while. Did this all day. The other guy was pissed cause they were only calling him all day. So I got him one and we both did the same thing for about a month, while their techies kept trying to fix it at the computer level. And even had the installers come back a couple times to see what's wrong in the trucks. Of course they never found anything wrong and decided these things didn't work so good and were more trouble than they're worth. They never once suspected we were doing anything. I mean, what did a couple of dumb blue colors know about stopping GPS. So they told the company no thanks and to this day not one vehicle can be tracked. It was the greatest thing to see these two 10$ cigerette sized electronic devices put the lid on setting up an entire public works fleet from having GPS. We're dying to tell the other guys, but we know it will somehow end up in the wrong ears. But I'm good with that if he does, as I'm retiring in 6 months. Things move so fast these days, that I doubt they would still work with the more up to date GPS there must be out there. But I'll bet you there's advancements on those blockers as well. By no means does everything have simple answers in our new tech world, but there will always be some that do and are worth trying if they're cheap like these were. Or some cases, free. Love this guy's channel though, been learning more than I ever thought I could about privacy issues and such. Cause there are more than just information hounds out there to get us to spend money. The theifs aren't even the worse. There are some downright maniacs out there trying to do many awful things to people in this world. Conspiracy has suddenly become reality. So now free speech has become more valuable than gold imo. Well very soon anyway. Nothing more I'd like to be wrong about than that.

It’s highly likely that if you bought a $10 “GPS Blocker” that it’s something cheap from China that is just interfering with a large band of RF. Be careful with that thing, it’s super illegal and the FCC doesn’t mess around, if it causes enough interference they can dispatch people to track down the source. People that used them have parked near airports before and accidentally caused huge problems… That being said, good job keeping The Man from needlessly spying on employees!

The data blocker is interesting and identifiable that you are protecting your data. Another possibility are cheap cords that do not transmit data but will only charge. Not as identifiable though, but would they also be an alternative to prevent juice jacking? I imagine they may be also more limited to the type of plug. Lastly, if one does not have a data blocker, is it safe to use one's own power adapter? How about if you share your power adapter (multiple outputs) with someone who also wants to charge from the same plug and/or may already be using the plug you need, so sharing would be the condition for use? Thanks for the video.

I’m not sure if this is more sophisticated than simply disconnecting the 2 inner pins of the USB-A connector or not, but a cord that only charges is the same effect. Unless someone has embedded a device in the charger, it’s pretty unlikely to be unsafe & I feel that same about USB charging outlets in public locations like airports. But.. the device is great & would be a good piece of mind to plug into your charge cable & use all the time.

Not sure when they added this, but Android by default does not automatically do data connection when you plug in your phone (I assume Apple did this at some point as well). This could be enough to where you don't need a hardware USB data blocker. Then again, bugs have been found in USB, so if you are super concerned, but want to be able to charge in public, you could go for the data blocker. They also make cables that do data blocking so that you don't have an extra piece of small easily-lost hardware. Dude, you just showed us two consecutive codes for all your apps. That might be enough to reconstruct your entire sequence of codes, because the entire code sequence is generated algorithmically (that's why you do not need a data connection to get a code).

You're missing a simple app for encrypting text. Give yourself a universal encryption key or a different encryption key for each password. I'd also suggest a powered USB hub if you're using a desktop computer. Plugging your camera and mic through it allows you to easily cut the power to them with a simple push of a button, eliminating any possibility of someone _tuning in._ Additionally, it increases the number of devices you can use.

Phones should have a 'kill' code. If you input it in place of your PIN it factory resets your phone. Then if you're being coerced or forced to give your PIN, you give the kill code and instantly it wipes everything.

2FA keys are only as good as the end site, as some let you bypass the key by SMS or worse, so it's useless if the provider let's you bypass

The password USB stick does have a vulnerability in it. If you research them online, you’ll find that the encryption chip and the memory chip are separated, and there’s a physical line in between them. If you hijacked that line, you can technically send the code to encrypt the chip by just connecting a small microcontroller to that single pen, and by the way, that description code is not your password it is simply the string unlock

I'd LOVE to use a 2FA key. I bought the damned things because I thought they'd be a wonderful way to increase the security of my accounts. Then I found out that absolutely NO site that I use supports these things. It MIGHT be useful if you happen to need to log into the Federal Reserve's servers to do some multibillion-dollar transactions. But my bank did not support them, and I didn't find any other consumer banks on the list. Same with Amazon, Twitter, and Netflix -- almost NONE of the websites that the average consumer uses support YubiKey. They are great in theory but, for most people, utterly useless in practice.

I disagree. Check this list: 2FA.directory

If you don't have a data blocker with you, but do have your power bank, you can plug in the power bank to charge and plug your phone in to the power bank to charge. This will charge up both devices at the same time and also block data as power banks don't pass through data.

I am very pleased that over a decade ago my first smartphone was a motorola droid... even them jawns had that feature/tool

You forgot to mention that all the usb data blocker does is remove the 2 inner pins of the usb. The outer 2 are the ones that supply the voltage. I have plenty of usb cables that no longer transfer data because of something wrong but they charge just fine since the outer pins and wires are ok. It is however, handy to have just an addon plug that you can add to your usb to know it will work. thanks for the video.

You could always modify a USB cable or any charging cable to only charge and not use data, you just cut the data cables and leave the power cables
@jmi9677 ай бұрын
Since you can use a charging cable as a datablocker, the only way I’d justify the cost is if it also prevented usb killers (overvoltage meant to destroy the usb interface)
