High School Homeschool Curriculum 2023

Today I’m sharing what we are using for our 10th grader for each of his subjects, and a little on our homeschool philosophy!
When we started homeschool I was the most nervous about tackling high school because I had NO experience in this area- however, it has been even easier than schooling my youngest, and I’ve learned a bunch on the way.

I love this! Here in Michigan it is very lacks also when it comes to what the kids have to do for school for homeschool. If I would have known it was this easy I would have done this from day one with all my children! With my high schooler it really isn't hard! Depending on what they want to do then it's hard. He wants to go into a trade so there's not any worry of learning something crazy to become a doctor. He also loves fishing so much that's his goal in life is to be a pro fisherman. But we also need something to fall back on therefore he's going to a trade. And because he loves fishing so much we also do ichthyology which is the study of fish for science! And I've done it every single year since we've started and we started the second part of covet I guess you could say. My kids did not like the whole mask situation and I wasn't going to put them through that

I’m in Michigan too and never realized how relaxed they are with homeschooling. I would have done this a while ago. There’s so much fluff taught in school these days.

Thank you for sharing what you are doing this year. I am using a few of the same curriculum choices that you are using. I would be interested to know how you use the Duolingo for the language part...because they don't do tests or quizzes, how are you assessing for a grade?

They score each lesson, and I record those scores. The unit review at the end of each section is the “test” for us!

Thanks so much for this. I have a 7 year old but just started to homeschool. I’ve looked into so much. I like IEW layout so eventually we will get there. Right now doing easy grammar. Also I have teaching textbooks but it doesn’t start til 3rd grade. Are these requirements through your homeschool coop or just requirement for him to get the college prep degree?

The requirements I follow are for college prep- our co-op is very relaxed (we focus more on electives)😊 I love The Good and the Beautiful for math under 3rd grade- I did a curriculum video for my second grader (he’s 7 too!) that might help!

Last time I used teaching text books they had an annoying little icon and the voice was really boring. Has this changed?

Lol I still find the voice annoying, but he gets the math and does well on the lessons- I just have to ignore it!

Great video!!! I'm also HS a middle schooler in GA. Can you share how you prepare your high school transcript? Just the mere mention of it causes anxiety. Also, do you know of any elective programs in GA for trade bound students i.e carpentry, welding, woodshed?

Thank you! I will get a video together on a transcript for sure, but definitely do not have anxiety! As long as you cover some main basic points, you are good- grades, credits earned for each course (1 credit is 120 hours or a whole year, 1/2 credit covers 60 hours or a semester), and GPA (which I keep it simple and follow the basic layout A= 4.0, B=3.0, and so forth). I just finished filming a video today on starting dual enrollment at our local tech school- I HIGHLY recommend this option for the elective credits you mentioned bc they can build into a diploma or degree after high school and it can be free!
