I've always wondered in the high school settings, why the students seem to live alone and you never see the parents? And my husband the anime fan says, "Because they're at work."

So what I’m thinking from this is, instead of spending our life savings moving to Japan expecting it to be an idealistic Kawaii utopia, we should bring that utopia to our home country

One of the biggest things I like in the difference between the high school popularity trope in Japanese anime vs Western media is in western media (which also has always been a lie) is you get to be smart or hot, not both. 😂😂 if you are male, hot and athletic as in good at a sport usually. Popular girls in High School Media might be athletic in a ‘feminine’ sport (gymnastics, cheerleading, dance etc) but being pretty is enough. Intelligence isn’t a factor and I don’t mean being a wiz kid genius smarter than everyone, like often popular kids in US TV Shows don’t even know how to crack the spine of a book. And I very well knew cheerleaders on the deans list IRL, but our value system is kinda crazy. One thing I do like about the Anime boy fantasy is (hopefully) guys watching it do want to be renaissance men as opposed to unskilled lunk heads coasting by being good in one sport that they’ll be too old for before they turn 40, if they are one of the small lucky few that even turn pro.

I went to Japan because of anime expecting stuff to be exciting lmao I quickly found out it’s nothing like the anime. However, doesn’t mean I didn’t have a great time there. It was one of my best memories

When I was in school. If a guy liked you he walked up to you an asked you out. "Will you be my girl friend or will you go out with me" an if you said yes you were boy friend girl friend it was official until one of you said. " I wanna break up" mine asked me in high school 2002 still together

I have a question and would be super happy if you reply. In the Yu-Gi-Oh manga in one chapter a teacher checked the belongings of their students (reason: power abuse) and stated that condoms was one of the "forbidden items" at that school. Can this be true? (From all what I have read about Japanese schools it seems this could at least be possible I think. Note Yuugiou was written in the ninties and the author was born in the sixties) and generelly East/SE Asian schools tend to want students to focus solely on studying (I mean for e.g. no nail polish, no makeup, no dyed hair are kinda common, rules for boys how long their hair is supposed to be etc) but is it possible that some will check your belongings and that condoms are forbidden? I would like to know for you are Japanese and addressing the topic.
