Nini is upset because she always thought in s1 that there was something between Ricky & Gina. But then Ricky told her he loved her and so she thought that was it. So finding out that while her and Ricky were together, Gina thought Ricky sent her chocolates makes Nini wonder...why would you even think that was a possibility in the first place, especially since it was talked about in romantic context as they’re talking about Gina liking EJ. So yeah Nini’s upset about that because to her she’s now questioning her relationship with Ricky when she was away.

My theory is that EJ is going to take a gap year, like Matt said on the podcast that Tim have plans for keeping him on the show. And EJ said to Gina on 2x08 he doesn't know what he wants, like all of his life his dad's plan for him was Duke, and the show explore some topics that I really liked like the "you don't need to have a big dream" with Big Red or "it's okay to take a break and not exhaust yourself" with Ain't See Nothing. So I hope they explore the gap year thing with EJ, like it's okay to not know what you want at 18, you can take some time to decide.

Also the reason for Nini getting upset about the chocolates could be a plot device to create tension between portwell. Because if Nini tells EJ about it, he may then feel insecure and call off his date with Gina thinking she likes Ricky, and he doesn’t want to go through that again, but then Gina tells him she doesn’t like him anymore and likes EJ. At least that’s my prediction to postpone portwell getting together officially until the finale.

I said this last time too when I saw the promo: she shouldn't be mad... technically. Ricky didn't actually give Gina chocolates nor did they try to hide it from Nini; it just wasn't important enough to bring up since it was just a misunderstanding/miscommunication. It would be a little different if she had learned when it first happened. I can see both sides though. I feel as if they hinted to either a new lgbtqia+ character being added if they do a third season or incorporating an exploration of a current character’s sexuality after that “not many guys like Carlos” comment. If they incorporate it into a current character’s storyline I feel like it would most likely be Ricky because 1) he besides Nini is currently single so they could do it without creating another love triangle 2) Ricky almost seemed a bit too jealous of seblos this episode(could obviously be that he just got out of a relationship but they could always do more with this) and 3) Josh is part of the lgbtqia+ and queer characters should be played by queer actors imo(ofc nothing wrong with straight actors playing lgbtq characters but priority should go to them just because ya know they’ve experienced similar events as these characters) and also Josh said he would love for Ricky to explore his queerness. Idk I feel like they could do a lot with Ricky now that he’s single and it would be another good way of including representation of the lgbtqia+ with a pan/bi/unlabeled character. If they were to add a character I would love for them to include a non-binary or transgender character just so we can see a wider spectrum of representation.

I agree with @Antwon that it's okay to think of the possibilities as well but just let them be with their opinion. Because what you've said is one of the reasons why television are too timid to add more lgbt content. Think before you speak and if you don't like the idea of Ricky's sexuality being explored then keep it to yourself.
