Because of this video I went and bought a jigging rod and some different jigs. I live in Hawaii so I wasnt sure how well this would work. I started jigging in 140' of water and, while getting the jigging motion down does take a little practice, verticle jigging saved my day fishing. Instead of coming up empty, I was able to bring home some quality fish. What a great video with great information. Thanks Capt. Mike and company for putting together such informative and helpful videos. You have given me a lot more options when I'm out fishing which translates into more fish. You guys are awesome.

Would you tie braid to mono direct using an FG or would you use a swivel? And with the jig, would you tie direct onto the leader or use a snap or swivel. Much appreciate it
@FloridaSportFishing8 жыл бұрын
+dohnut I would tie leader directly to braid. I double the end of the braid and use an Albright knot to connect the mono or fluorocarbon leader. As far as the jig is concerned, skip any hardware and tie directly to jig. Capt Mike
@miguetova27078 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys, great video! Could you please explain a little better why to use braid on this Jigs? Could a 30# test mono w/50# Mono top shot? Is it only because you can get more line with a braid? would you mind expanding on this? and Thanks again!
@FloridaSportFishing8 жыл бұрын
+Miguel Tovar Guastaferro Braid offers the following benefits. More line capacity on the reel, near zero stretch so every inch of rod movement is translated to lure, and its ultra thin diameter penetrates the depths much easier than equivalent size mono. Really, its the only way to go when jigging, but make sure to include a mono top shot for the elasticity factor to avoid pulling hooks. - Capt Mike

Could you do some tips for us who might be on a cheaper budget. Say if we couldn’t purchase $200-$400 dollar reels and equipment. But are comfortable spending around $100-$150 in a combination rod/reel.
@breust15 жыл бұрын
Staying within $150 for rod and reel may be hard for a decent quality setup without going into used (2nd hand gear). However, it is definitely doable if you can up the price to about the $200 range. You can get a Daiwa BG 5000 and a Ugly Stik Tiger Jigging or boat rod within that range. You could do very well with this set up and get some nice sized fish. However, keep in mind that the rod and reel are only part of the situation. You will need good quality (preferably) main line, leader and jigs to properly target and land the fish. These can easily run upwards of 30-60% of your budget. The initial investment is stiff even for cheaper gear, but once you get going you will be set and you can add on additional gear and setups over time without breaking the bank.
@cameronarnold29835 жыл бұрын
Yeah I figured $150 would be a stretch. Thanks for the reply. I’ll go up to $200 range.
