I had the same thought, would be interested to know what that's all about. I'm guessing they are private crossings but with a bit of warning lighting added?

Thanks! 🙂 Gotta stay bundled up in these winter conditions! How do you like the Rode mic?
@BrockvilleRailfan Жыл бұрын
@@100m.p.h. , love it. has a nice overall ambiance, great for capturing the horn echos, very rich sound. Had an interim mike when the camcorders built in mike started breaking up when right beside a horn event. The interim was cheap and terrible, mono, Been shooting with the Rode for over a year now and still on the original 9V battery. Only downside is you have to remember to turn it on. You may have seen the one or two silent movies I posted . Still happens occasionally but I don't post those anymore.

What’s with the unusual crossing signals?
@100m.p.h. Жыл бұрын
The crossing signals I think are for private farmer crossings that have limited visibility. It lets you know when its safe to cross. With out having all the gates, flasing lights and bells. 1 cheaper and 2 equipment wouldn't damage gates (as they would come down) if by chance they got delayed in clearing the crossing with bigger machinery (tractors, farm, etc)

If VIA gets the go-ahead for HSR, then this curve, beautiful as it is, would have to be straightened. But it makes a great place to shoot train videos, for now.
@100m.p.h. Жыл бұрын
There would probably be a few curves needing straightening. 🙂

What horns do the new VIA rail fleet have? Doesn't sound like a K5LA?
@TheRailfan360 Жыл бұрын
This horn is called the K5CA-LS. For some reason, they're not sounding it as loud as they are on the P42s.

Ok, I’m going to through this out there. But is VIA following suit with GO Transit on orientation of the trainset? Montreal (eastbound) locomotive leads. Ottawa (west/north bound), cab car leads. There’s only one test trip last April where it was backwards, cabcar leads eastbound. The two trips in August were locomotive leads eastbound. Just a train of thought. Is there really a true method to which end leads?
@100m.p.h. Жыл бұрын
I wonder if they have decided which end will lead westbound and easbound. I think last April may have been just during the test runs.

I think due to the limited visibility thats why the special warning devices/lights. Cheaper thank full gates lights ans bells.
