My first shotgun was a breakopen single shot. The cost was $3 because the forearm was wrapped with some electrical tape to hold it on. We took it home and rooted through the junk drawer and found a screw that worked on the forearm. It isn't pretty but the number of rabbits, pheasants, and squirrels taken with it, shows that it shoots well. It kicked like a mule on my 87-pound skinny body when shooting squirrels, but I never noticed the recoil when shooting rabbits or pheasants. I carried it with a pocket full of pumpkin balls during my first three deer seasons but only saw doe when all I had was a buck tag. I ought to take it out for a few days of buck season to fulfill that early in my life wish.

@Freddie Pick That's awesome! My first was a single shot break open 12 Guage also! ($28.00 From K-mart) in 1975 I was 12yrs old. My Dad had a J.C. Higgins Pump 12 Guage. The first time I shot it (maybe a year or two before I got my hunting license) I made an Iron City(pounder) bottle dissappear! My Dad stood behind me to help with the recoil, which I barely noticed when I saw the bottle dissappear! Good times! What year did you buy your shotgun?

My first was a single shot too. Stevens 12 ga. Manufactured in the 30s. Only I bought it at the hight of covid panic, so it wasn't as cheep as 3 bucks.

Got my first gun when I was around 6years old 22lr break action changeable barrel youth rifle killed my first deer with it when I was 11 out bird hunting and was deer season at the time a button buck had tried jumping the fence and broke his leg he approached us running surprised me and my dad he layed down and I took my shot. Not many people can say they have killed a deer with a 22lr just right place right time put him out of suffering and fed the family.

Awesome! Got a Mass Arms single shot long Tom in 12 gage that has mismatched screws and such. It's an old family heirloom. Firing pin seems to have been removed at some point for some reason. Lol

I wish some manufacturer would reintroduce that model. With screw in chokes, it really doesn't matter that the barrel is screwed into the receiver. Mossberg borrowed heavily from it when they introduced the Model 500.

My grandparents bought 2 jc higgins shotguns, 12 ga pump. New from Sears, way back when. They both still work good as new. One does have rust inside the barrel though.

Some cash given to a long forgotten Oklahoma City gun shop made a new 12 ga. High Standard with 28 in. barrel come into my ownership in about 1970. It looks very similar to your HS short barrel. Kansas & Nebraska pheasants have been harvested when hunting with many friends. Ducks, geese, doves, prairie chickens, turkeys, rabbits, squirrels, deer, wild hogs taken in several states with that gun have given me many memories to savor. A great big thanks goes out to High Standard people!!

Worked for a Missouri PD in 76 & 77 and we had High Standard shotguns. Don't remember what model but remember that the slide would slide down when the slide release was press. Every gun show I go to I look for one..

Put a Weaver Choke on it ; Open, Medium and Full Coke extensions. Had one on my FN Sweet 16 18" and loved it - That FN 16 could out range a 12 Gauge ;o)

I love my High Standard slug gun, it's the same age as I am, was made in 1960. It is my go-to for deer hunting. It shoots as well as the day it was made. It's not the riot gun but the hunting version. It does not have the model number on it, never did. Very smoot action.

I'll never part with my Winchester model 1300 riot, fastest smoothest most accurate SG I ever shot or owned, PERIOD! #1 it's a 3 lug AR-15 type system, takes any and all types of ammo, #2 requires almost no cleaning, etc. #3 it is superior to any pump gun ever made, and is100% reliable with 0 problems out of its 1993 box, + it just looks scarry, even today, +the sound that gun makes on cycle is just what a bad guy had the night before in a permeative bad dream!

I have an old J C Higgins Flite king made by high standard and sold by Sears that was converted to a riot gun back in the late 60’s early 70’s, I still prefer it over many other shell shuckers and it is right up there in slickness and speed as compared to my old police issue Remington Wing Master 870 Riot’ very formidable piece to say the least’

The current president is an armamentist and we are rooting for his victory, as we will have the possible release of various calibers. The Brazilian Supreme Court has vetoed some calibers, but as a measure only to annoy the incumbent president and those who like guns. Let's wait.
