As much as I like the idea of PEEK and PEI being accessible, I doubt it will ever be. This is like the formula cars of 3D printing. But for a $9000 Vision Miner high temp printer, that's as close to a prosumer printer you'll get. A side note about TERMINOLOGY. There is loose use, and then there is technical use. "...POUNDS OF PRESSURE trying to peel things up" [paraphrase] could mean that the physical situation was extreme and exceeded some limit. But technically, "POUNDS OF PRESSURE" is a mismatch in terms: pound is force (famously, F=ma), whereas pressure is force across an area (e.g. psi: pounds per square inch). Just sayin'. Take it or leave... no pressure:D

So after the first mess up with international shipping I took them up on the second offer of a free sample of full size pack. I pay $33 shipping and they send me a free sample. Sweet sounds pretty good to me. But they declared it wrong on the shipping declaration! So instead of free sample with $0 value plus the shipping costs, which is what they said it was and should have been declared as. They for some unknown reason declared it as $49 retail sale value item with no shipping costs. Which means it immediately got hit with admin and duty charges as its over the no duty / VAT / admin threshold level. I've emailed them to ask them WTF, but someone over there really needs to get on top of these admin issues. And it's not like I didn't check all this with them beforehand as it just all started sounding like a scam. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, so annoying as it does sound like really good stuff. Since they are using high temp material do they us a pre-heater on the filament (to get rid of any last moisture during moving of spool from vacuum to machine) before going into nozzle? Similar in how filament recycle machines increase temp by sections before extruding. So do they transfer filament from spool to spool themselves, or provide spools to manufacturer to start with?

Oh man, we LOVE it for Nylon! No more brims!

The NASA whitepaper used a Lulzbot Taz 4, not an Ultimaker, unless there's another one about retrofitting a desktop printer for high temp materials...
@VisionMiner4 жыл бұрын
Right! Got the two mixed up, the ultimaker was Rajil from 3DAMSS -- he was the first video of an ultimaker printing PEI, that I'm aware of, on the whole of the internets :)

Joel's been spending too much time around plastic he's forgotten what metal was like, I've never seen someone get so excited over aluminium before.
@johansphone4 жыл бұрын
Joel the information at 7:00 is for annealing of metals which is the opposite of what annealing dose to a semicrystalline polymer. When you anneal a semicrystalline polymer it will increase the crystallinity. Causing an increase in stiffness, hardness and decrease in ductility. This really stuck out like a sore thumb to me, because 30 minutes ago i had a 6 hour long examination about metals and polymers.

Yep, we missed that one. Sorry about that.

Thank you for such interesting videos, i never suspected stuff like this even exists, so cool! Keep it up and good luck!

Which drones did Patrick make? (curious -- love my drones)
@VisionMiner4 жыл бұрын
He owned Aerial Media Pros -- they manufactured a bunch of custom high-end drones for Hollywood, working with Brad Pitt and Snoop Dogg amongst others... then got into the AR25 FPV drone,, and many other drone throughout that time, also owning one of the first DJI stores in the USA. Quite a pedigree! (We're all RC fanatics here, too -- Rob flys FPV race drones, Jay flys helicopters, and Cole loves long-range fixed-wing flying. The other guys are getting better with the tiny whoops :))

@@VisionMiner Wow quite a flight crew there. Nothing wrong with the whoops either :-D (I have years of whoops videos on my channel lol)
