High Winds, Smoke, and Wildfires | Intense Landing at LAX!

The fact that the landing was from the ocean side says something about the situation . Probably 90% of LAX landings are from the east

Absolutely.. I live right by LAX and was on a flight that made the same approach on Jan 7. I fly regularly (several times a month) and hadn’t been on a flight with this approach since…get this ….2020 just before the pandemic. That flight in 2020 was a go around. If you add the Santa Ana winds, gusting at near hurricane force at times that day, our pilots did a phenomenal job that day.

One of the things I love about living in LA is that we rarely have extreme weather that causes arrival delays or rough landings at LAX. This was definitely one of the rockier landings there I've witnessed, made all the more dramatic with the smoke from the fires. Thanks for capturing it.

There were two major fires the day of this landing. At the beginning of the video you saw smoke from the Eaton Fire in the Altadena/Pasadena area. Once you were near the coast, the Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades was adding it's own smoke.

Everytime I landed at LAX I flew in toward the ocean. The Santa Ana winds must be kicking it for the plane to come in from the ocean to land.

Santa Ana's typically come from the northeast.
