A gardening victory! In a Victory Garden? I think what makes this work is the moisture that the plastic barrel preserves. The Tower system using wire mesh in the shape of a barrel allows surrounding air to wick all the needed moisture right out of the fully exposed walls of the Tower. Great job!

Probably going to echo alot of sentiment, the best thing y'all did was get those little guys involved. They love dirt. Gets them outside, they literally learn to get their hands dirty, and is good for their dexterity as they are developing. Amazing discovery for them, the care and time involved in agriculture. Very counter to the instant gratification culture we live in. Enjoy them, you won't get the time back. Ours is 27 now. Thank you for sharing, trying to gather potato growing ideas. I had the opportunity to be around agriculture as a kid, it has it's own rhythm to it re: elbow grease, timing, and care. Take care of those little ones, be safe, and God bless

Your Videos are great! I find solace watching people cook but this is way more enjoyable and fulfilling! thanks for putting it out there. I lived in Gig Harbor on a small farm back in 1980 and enjoyed the mild weather but now I am in Maine with a very short growing season and trying my best to adapt.I plan on trying container gardening this year and need all the help I can get. I have moles and many pests here and the soil is mostly clay. My potatoes died last year and other vegetables did poorly. My herbs are doing well and most are getting through the winter. Your children are awesome and you are a wonderful person to help your family learn about growing; it is such a positive thing to grow your own. When I see families like yours doing what you are doing it gives me hope for the future of our people. I hope to build a greenhouse soon . I have been saving seeds from everything I buy rather than throw them away. It is very fulfilling to see a plant grow and make food that can recycle. All my best to you and your future endeavors

urazzholes Thank you, It's important to teach the next generation what is not being taught in schools. I have neighbor kids that come over to help harvest veggies too, they show a great passion for growing too. You may get help from kids in your area, I usually allow them to take most of what they harvest. I wrote an article on the 6 laws of plant growth, which is something I learned from the Mittleider Gardening Course book. I use to kill all my house plants, but I wanted to grow food for my family. I did a lot of research on what I want to grow and how to grow them. I kept going back to the Mittleider gardening method. I hope this helps you have a successful garden this year. Link to the 6 laws of plant growth: www.momsimplelife.com/mittleider-gardening-6-laws-of-plant-growth/

I grew potatoes in square foot gardening. My kids always liked digging for potatoes. Getting potatoes out of soft soil is super fun.

If you plant 12 barrels for every month and re-plant every month, you can have fresh ANYTHING every single month!

This video gave me the idea to cut the barrel in half to get a 2 for 1 potato container and it will be a lot lot easier on the back when you need to tip it over to remove the dirt. Good job!

Off set them as well make it where you will have a different barrel coming in every couple of weeks.. That is what I do with my garden beds. I do not want all my crops coming in at one time. I have 8 garden beds. I plant them 2 weeks apart so that I will have fresh veggies cumming in all the time and not all at once.

It's nice to see that it mostly wasn't about the potatoes themselves, but about the bonding of the whole family gathering those potatoes. 😃 Nice job, you guys. I hope the kids were just that excited to eat it as they were digging those monster potatoes out! 😂😂😂 Om nom nom! 😂😂😂

Great job you guys. I love red potatoes, that's all I buy. This year, I saw my potatoes in the fridge sprouting so I just bury them in the flower pot and wala... I have more potatoes I just harvested. Not hard to plant them .
