3:17 Sometimes they'll have the lyric sheets to make their own marks/ticks for where they want to emphasize the singing or lines. Plus, if they're recording for a full album, they'll have 11(ish) tracks to memorize on top of the dance practices. Then they also have photo shoots, MV shoots, variety shows, interviews, KZbin videos to be shooting, so it's not a surprise they're unable to memorize everything fully before recording since they're kept so busy.

It makes sense that they would have lyrics with them - the lyrics are never strictly in their native language (or in it at all, poor China line) and don't match up with the English guide tracks, plus it's good to have a reference jic. Some of them might also have a phonetic version they've written out since even Johnny, easily the most fluent non-native speaker in NCT, thinks Hangul is hard to read.

If you get your head out of the clouds and watch the performance you'll realize chenle isn't singing the high notes, he's screaming them. They don't keep the sheet just for the lyrics, as they go on, they write down the intonations and connotations of each word and frase. If you watch the uncut for Wendy's When This Rain Stops and Like Water, you can see her writing a lot and she even shows the sheet at the end. PS.: english is not my first language...just in case it's bad kkkkk

I know this was a while ago, but as for the lyric sheet being needed; The vocal guides they get are usually in English or just gibberish initially and so they tend to be changed & translated often right before recording Once they receive the basic outline/guide track, they usually go straight to practicing choreography The actual recording of the song is one of the last things they do before its release, hence why the lyrics aren't always known (they aren't revised fully until the end of the process)

Since most of the demos are original in English they don’t really know the lyrics until they get them and they usually get the lyrics a day beforehand This is normal for kpop groups who’ve been going on for a few years to the point where they aren’t rookies anymore
