Great video. Thanks for explaining the reality of high availability jobs, like python, vs higher pay rarer jobs.

I like lists of highest-paying languages that barely mention any languages because there's a higher level of wisdom to understand.
@JoshChristiane10 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Foundations will always matter more than any individual language, but people want to know a good place to start.

I'm so glad I found your channel, finally someone that puts out a very well constructed argument based on the status quo and its own experiences. At first, I thought it was just another clickbait video about a chart on some random webpage for the highest paying languages, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would suggest your thumbnails or titles go a little bit more above and beyond. Your channel and ideas are great, and I would really feel bad if this high-quality content would get lost in the sea of clickbait videos. Thanks for the great video and insights 🎊

Nice to see a new video after a while. People need to understand languages don't matter much. I've also started getting deep into the blockchain development and its really powerful but many aren't aware of.

Amazing how Perl rose so high then fell and went dark, at least that's how it looks to 99.7% of everyone in the software-making world. I used Perl just a few years ago to manage test automation, picking metadata out of media files. It was fun, in a way. But ach! What a quirky language! Since then, I've seen Perl mention about never times in job descriptions.
@JoshChristiane10 ай бұрын
Perl is so weird, you're totally right. I've never used it on anything commercial, and I think this is the result of herd mentality. Not enough people use it to promote others to use it, but it's a great language in those niche fields where it is applied.
@DrunkenUFOPilot10 ай бұрын
@@JoshChristiane Freakin' easy to learn to, for someone who's already a programming polyglot, even as quirky as Perl is.

Speaking of COBOL, a lot of people don't want to admit it but it'll be around quite possibly for another 50+ years. It may be oUtDaTeD, but it still works just fine. (If it's broke, don't fix it!)

@@JoshChristiane Yes. I actually wouldn't mind working with the mainframe one bit. I don't care how "boring" it is. It may not be "glorious and high-speed" like a FAANG job, but how many COBOL programmers are being laid off?

7:50 you said Django but that is a backend framework?? Did you mean React or Vue js or something else??
@JoshChristiane2 жыл бұрын
No, I did actually mean Django. I was just saying that a LOT of programming jobs are backend Django type programming jobs where you specialize in one framework. That could be front-end or back, or full-stack, not trying to be too specific here, just generally specialized fields.

I've been learning assembler for a couple of years now. Where would I look for low level jobs?
@DrunkenUFOPilot10 ай бұрын
Really? That's good news for me! I grew up doing assembly and electronics-level digital projects. Everything from making LEDs blink to creating funky digital art on an oscilloscope to making 3D renderers run 5x faster and integrating infrared cameras into expensive electromechanical systems. When I'm learning Crystal or Rust of Zig, I'm wondering what's the compiler putting out at the machine code level? All I need to know is: who is hiring for low-level assembly developers these days?
@oliviabuxton99883 жыл бұрын

you can't learn a language without learning the CPU you are programming for.
@JoshChristiane3 жыл бұрын
That's a really good thought actually, it would help you from a design and architectural perspective. You could learn a language and program something high level that's CPU independent, which will run everywhere (think Java), but that doesn't make for fast accurate code.
