Hey Matt, In the next year or so, I'll be buying my first PCP. I'm a seasoned young shooter of powder burning rifles and I've become a more than proficient break barrel air rifle hunter over the last five years I've been using them (i can usually hit a .22 rimfire shell at 25 yds usually 3/5 or 4/5 shots), so I don't just want to get an entry level PCP and then buy a better one after that. Would you recommend buying the impact or streamline as my first PCP?

Fantastic video Matt, the shooting was of course spot on; but I wish to commend you on your video skills as well, the production is incredible!! In many ways better than the high dollar producers on the television. So kudos to you on that!! That final shot of the night sky with the stars was a perfect gem to end the video... BTW the food looked delicious, I know from experience it always tastes better when you harvest it yourself.....

For a given valve design (which, sadly, has a regular hammer instead of an inertia hammer :/) If I want to increase power, would you suggest that I adjust the hammer spring tension or get a heavier hammer? What would be the pros and cons of each alternative? Thanks in advance for your reply!!!

Did you try a 5 shot group at a piece of paper @10 meters? Make a rest for the gun, draw a cross on the paper, aim at the cross every time. If pellets group far off your mark, adjust sights until you can hit the cross. If pellets just shotgun around the cross, try different pellets, if you find a pellet brand that makes a good group, adjust sights to get grouping on the cross :)

@le3045acp
@le3045acp 7 жыл бұрын
I am of the opinion that you cannot outperform a given cartridge by necking it down and putting a smaller bullet in it. That said, If you shoot equal grain bullets of similar form design, the smaller caliber will win due to increased sectional density and subsequent higher BC. Now max potential of each, the larger of the two will typically have the favor. At least for energy down range/less windage. An example would be the 260/140 AMAX versus the 708/162 AMAX. The 162 is going to kick the crap out of the 140. More downrange energy, less drift, and a bigger hole to boot. Some may say that the 260/140 will be much faster. A little faster maybe. The fact is that equal barrel lengths in each caliber with equal cases and equal bullet weights guess which one is faster. The one with the bigger bore. The 708/162 versus the 260/140 velocities will be closer than you would think on the surface. You can apply the same principals to the 708/162 versus the 308/208. In this case though, the 208 is conciderably slower than the 708/162 but will hit with a lot more energy. Windage will favor the 162. Other factors to concider is that the one with the larger bore will have better barrel life but more recoil. NOW WITH ALL THIS BEING SAID i am in no way critisizing your choice in caliber just here in the states it is not the first choice and in your case the caliber is not as important as you Matt Dubber doing the calculations and taking the shot i just prefer the 6.5x55 for iighter bullet long range and for larger bullets i prefer .308 winchester i was more curious than trying to be critical thank you for the excellent job you have been doing and you ted si and others helped get me back into air guns
@AirArmsHuntingSA
@AirArmsHuntingSA 7 жыл бұрын
+lee williams If I was only shooting at closer ranges, I would have happily chosen a .308. But at 1000m, the 6.5 bullet will carry more energy and be affected by conditions a lot less. I could, in theory, load up a high BC .30 bullet, but it would be so heavy that I wouldn't get the velocities I need. You could ask the same question to .243 shooters... Why the .243 over the .308? They would probably give you a similar answer.
@le3045acp
@le3045acp 7 жыл бұрын
the reasons you give make sense it was mostly curiosity like i was saying here in the states it is not a very popular caliber and the ammo is not readily available at the local places that sell ammo here you would have to drive 80k to buy factory ammo but i am like you and i load my own every thing from 32acp to 338 lapua

Howzit Matt. Great seeing you keep up on the good work. I hope you find the means to do what you love forever. Just two questions - FX Streamline or AA S510 Extra FAC. Louie (airgunwarehouse) advised me to take the readily available fx rather than the AA S510. I was amazed at this as he always push to sell a AA. What is your thoughts. My only concern is the reliability. Read many reviews on the FX lack of reliability or rather the constant breakages and repairs to manage??? Secondly have you thought of changing the name of your channel. I mean you started it with your trusty AA S410 .177 back when I presume you still stayed at home. Now you have moved so far away from the air arms and you have also started incorporating the .260. I am all for the quality and pure respect you deserve on the work you do promoting PCP's but I do think its time to broaden the horizon. You are knowledgeable enough to teach other as I have learned from you. I'm also not recommending your channel becomes one like TiborasaurusRex but hey, with that amount of knowledge, you should share it. Ever though of designing and selling apparel for the avid hunter or airgun enthusiast? Keep up the good work and hope to meet you some day Regards from the Vaal
@AirArmsHuntingSA
@AirArmsHuntingSA 7 жыл бұрын
+ettiene botha The Streamline is a very reliable and well made PCP. Build quality of Air Arms rifles is amongst the best out there, but they are a little bit behind with the technical aspects of their design. Accuracy is good but air efficiency is a big issue, and they aren't regulated so velocities aren't very consistent... a big problem when you're shooting at longer ranges. Just my 2 cents. About changing the name: I don't think I will ever change it. It was a mistake to ever associate myself with one particular brand... I should have kept it completely neutral from the start. But I have built the channel under this name now, and it wil probably never change.
@ettieneb
@ettieneb 7 жыл бұрын
You have not just created a channel but an identity associated with your expertise and professionalism. Regarding the AirArms, would it be wise still to purchase S510 (at a ridiculous cheap price) and just have a regulator installed? keep up the good work. regards
@mlpmlp6988
@mlpmlp6988 7 жыл бұрын
Ettiene, never ask a salesman/Dealer/agent of a specific brand what to buy. They will always push their own product. Airgun Warehouse used to be an Air Arms agent/dealer. They are no longer and have been replaced by Bushill RSA. They are no longer listed on the Air Arms website as a South African agent/dealer. When you look on the FX Airguns website however, you will see that Airgun Warehouse is listed there as a agent/dealer. Therefor I am not surprised at all that they are pushing FX instead of Air Arms of late. Not that there is anything wrong with it, I am just saying I would rather take the advice from Matt, with all his experience and knowledge, than to take advice from a salesman/agent/dealer.
@ettieneb
@ettieneb 7 жыл бұрын
I have trusted Matt since the very first video I watched. the expertise and professional manner in which he conducts this channel is amazing. My concern with the AA vs FX was that i can get an AA S510 for R16000 new. A price i have not seen since 2012/3. Do I grab it and rather spend the bucks installing a regulator or not. then you have the reliability factor. Air arms has always bee precision made with exceptional build quality. Thus my questions. Went to Louie today to check out the Streamline (similar price) but it is not the same build quality or feel as the Air Arms. Any opinion on this issue please help?!?!?!?!?!? .
