Highland Titles - Buying the Title of Lord, Lady, or Laird - Unpacking Our Purchase

We got 10 square foot plots as a couple from Highland Titles. Opening the package from Highland Titles in Scotland. Plots, titles, lords, ladies, and lairds, oh my!
NOTE: Highland Titles is NOT the same company is Established Titles.

In other words, it is not possible under current Scots law for anyone to transfer any form of legal ownership over a single square foot of land because such a plot of land “of inconsiderable size and no practical utility” obviously fits the legal definition of a “souvenir plot” and therefore cannot be registered with the Land Register of Scotland. Furthermore, even if it were possible, merely owning one square foot of land would not make anyone a “lord” or “lady” in any sense. Again not to be disrespectful but these are facts.

My husband & I have been Laird and Lady Glencoe since 2011. They've apparently improved their packages since then! Back the, there wasn't any options beyond the basic paperwork and a pin. The certificates have definitely improved and I like the photo IDs. I guess We'll need to buy new items to go with our old titles, lol.

I also purchased what I thought were actual deeds through Highland Titles for friends and family. Silly, looking back, but now I'm just looking for information on whether this will turn into a class action. Best to you both.

​@@mysideofthestory01 nothing from Highland Titles specifically, but a few major channels (personally I saw it on Legal Eagle and Pleasant Green) have posted "Established Titles is a scam" videos, which I believe each came from a different KZbinr (don't know the name OTTOMH) who "exposed" the story. It seems Established Titles has been paying for some really big sponsorships on KZbin and some of the things they are doing are more shady. Some of their web ads are flat out lying, and they vastly embellish their stewardship efforts. The comments in one of those videos was what led me to your videos. However, I don't think any of these sites are ripe for a class action, because even Established Titles is very clear on their website what you are and aren't getting. I researched them along with others and went with Highland Titles, because it was the one that seemed like it was focused most on conservation, instead of using the word "conservation" to upsell their titles. In short, **some** Lordship title companies could clean up their advertising standards and make their caveats more explicit, but YT is driven off extreme headlines and strong words like "scam".

@@bryan__m Thanks for this! Yes, I have understood there are issues with some of these companies. I choose Highland Titles in part because they are 100% absolutely, completely, unreservedly clear on their website and promotional materials that the Lord/Lady title is at best a company courtesy title, and "a bit of fun." It's stamped right on their website. So I've never understood why people get their panties in a knot about it. It's a good cause and a bit of fun goes with it. The land ownership thing is not a mystery either. People are FAR FAR FAR too literal and looking to poke holes. Highland Titles, and Dunnans Castle are good causes and I'm happy to support them, and I don't expect King Charles to show up at the airport and greet me as Lord Aaron ;)

I want a tree planted in honor of my dad. If they can do that, then it’s legit to me. I wouldn’t expect to actually own land and visit or build. I recognize the the ceremonial aspect of this and if they legitimately work to conserve land and native species, all the better. I donate to our local animal shelter and I get a pin and certificate (and a bumper sticker which I don’t use) and I kind of see this as the same thing. I see the “title” aspect of this as purely unofficial and ceremonial at best but, so what. Now, having said that, a lot of voices are saying this is a scam. That you receive nothing. No tree is planted. There is no organization trying to conserve anything in Scotland. And I mean a lot of people are saying this so I am really,disappointed because I thought this would be a fun gesture for dad and our family in general because we are Of Scottish heritage. Too bad this would have been fun

It took about 3-4 weeks to receive the hard copies. You can download your certificate right after you buy while you're waiting on the hard copies.

@@dreamowner No, you are not able to. "Laird" which is the Scottish word for Lord basically means that you own land, and does not really give you the "proper title" where you can use it in your ID. "Lord" and/or "Lady" basically means homeowner (owning land) It does not become a part of your "identity", however, you can identify as a Lord or a Lady when purchasing property in Scotland. It is a reserve in Scotland, and you can kind of see it as contribution, where you can identify yourself as a Lord/Lady, while helping out with money to take care of the land that you have purchased. I hope this made sense. This information is easily available if you google some questions.

It's not a subscription. Other companies (Established Titles, for one) have an option for (and may sneakily sign you up for) a monthly option, but Highland Titles only offers one-time purchases as far as I saw.

In sorry to inform you, that you legally do not own that land, therefore not making you lord or lady. They don't sell plots of land large enough to be registered under law, and those websites also don't "own" the land. So they don't own the land, you don't own the land, and nobody is a lord or lady. Not trying to be rude, it's just many ppl fall for this scam
